Education Engagement

In order to make the people more aware of synthetic biology, in order to make the public more aware of green and sustainable energy and share the fun of iGEM with future synthetic biologists, we organized some activities and lectures.

1.Hold an information session
We held an information session about synthetic biology and iGEM in the school, at which we introduced the basic rules and requirements of iGEM competition, as well as the basic content of synthetic biology, and set up Q&A session to actively communicate with students, hand out our manual to them, and welcome students who are interested in synthetic biology to join the family of synthetic biology.

2.nature guided tour activities
The activity is open to both inside and outside the school. We introduced various kinds of plants, algae and synthetic biology card games (this is the card creation of iGEM team of Shanghai university of science and technology in 2018), showed the model creature used in our experiment——Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, and introduced green and clean sustainable energy. At the same time, we also communicated with students who participated in the activity of environmental impact of laboratory safety, distributed the manual we made, and invited students who participated in the experimental project to share their views on laboratory safety and their own experience.

3.University activities
In combination with the previous information session, we wanted to use more interesting game activities to attract more people's interest, combining synthetic biology knowledge and energy knowledge with a variety of interesting little games, in a relaxed and pleasant way for everyone. Popularize some scientific knowledge, such as: "Colorful Milk" experiment, "Elephant Toothpaste" experiment, artificial "ice and snow", "growth of small tree", bio-battery, homemade fruit wine, homemade fruit-flavored yogurt, vein bookmarks, etc. The game is very good for everyone's interest in synthetic biology.
