Project


Project was mainly designed by Xichen Rao, Ruonan Tian and Zhongsheng Wu. Other team members also gave advice.



Team Education


Experiments education to new team members was conducted by Zhuoqi Huang, He Yang, Wenxin Hu, Siqi Yang, Guangxu Zhang and Kening Chen.


Model training was conducted by Ruonan Tian.

vcm17, mdlB, mdlC, parts of are operon, obGES, aiio and taRNA-crRNA are synthesized by GenScript.


The sequence of vcm17 was provided by Zhoutong Sun and Sheng Yang from CAS Center for Excellence in Molecular Plant Sciences / Institute of Plant Physiology and Ecology.


E. coli W3110 BCAE (W3110 ΔtyrB ::FRT, ΔaspC ::FRT, tyrA16 ::Tn10, ΔtrpE ::FRT) within pSUFAAQ (pSU2718 derivative, aroFfbr, pheAfbr, lacIq, hmaSAo) which is generously provided by Zhoutong Sun and Sheng Yang from CAS Center for Excellence in Molecular Plant Sciences / Institute of Plant Physiology and Ecology.

Hardware and Software


Hardware was designed and manufactured by Pengzhi Huang, Peixuan Yang, Qingkang Wen and Yang Sun. The mechanical structure of the hardware was produced by Yang Sun. The electronic circuit was produced by Qingkang Wen. The control module of the hardware was produced by Peixuan Yang. The wireless control software was coded by Pengzhi Huang.


Art design on the software was conducted by Lin Wang.

Xichen Rao took charge in wetlab group and supervised all experiments.


Characterization of LuxR was designed by Yuandong Sui, and performed by Yuandong Sui and Zichun Sun.


Improvement of luxPR (the promoter of lux quorum-sensing circuit) was designed by Ruonan Tian, and performed by Yu Han and Ruonan Tian.


Construction and verification of tet operator circuit were conducted by Siqi Yang, and Ting Xia and Runzhi Chen also gave assistance.


Construction and verification of are circuit were conducted by Shengkun Tong, and Tianze Meng also gave assistance.

Ruonan Tian took charge in the modeling group and supervised the constructions of all models.


The Genome-scaled Metabolism Model of E. coli K12 MG1655 transformed with the circuit of benzyl alcohol production was constructed by Ruonan Tian.


The model of leakage-control (Plan II) was constructed by Yun Liu and Zichun Sun.


The model of the benzyl alcohol sensing circuit (the are operon) was constructed by Yun Liu.


The model of the benzyl alcohol production was constructed by Yun Liu.


The model of the lux quorum-sensing circuit was constructed by Yun Liu and Zichun Sun.


The model of the erasure circuit was constructed by Zichun Sun.


The model for collaboration with HBUT-China which help to find out how nickel ion affects the growth of Saccharomyces cerevisiae was constructed by Yun Liu.



Human Practices


Jiani Hu took charge in the HP group and supervised all HP activities.


Project “Little Future Scientists” was held by College of Life Science and Technology, Huazhong Agricultural University. Jiani Hu plotted our team's activity in this project. All team members gave assistance in the activity.


The online teaching to the Hope Primary School in Macheng City which introduced microbiology and synthetic biology to the pupils there was conducted by Ting Xia, Ye Lu, Lingyi Zhu and Jiani Hu.


The official social media account of our team including QZone and WeChat are run by Ting Xia, Ye Lu, Lingyi Zhu and Jiani Hu. Each article on the social media was written by one team member.


The introduction of iGEM and synthetic biology to new entering students of Huazhong Agricultural University was conducted by Ting Xia, Ye Lu, Lingyi Zhu and Jiani Hu. All other team members also gave assistance.


The meeting with autistic children and depressed patients which will find out how our project affects society was conducted by Ting Xia, Ye Lu, Lingyi Zhu and Jiani Hu.


The questionnaire investigating how people thought of our project was designed, distributed and analyzed by Ting Xia, Ye Lu, Lingyi Zhu and Jiani Hu.



Daily Management


Jiani Hu took responsibility for the plan and financial affairs on travels.


Xichen Rao took responsibility for the financial affairs on experiment equipment and reagents.


Runzhi Chen and Ao Shen took responsibility for the purchasing on experimental materials and reagents.


Daily cleaning of our laboratory is assigned to all team members on shift.
