Project Design
The initial idea of doing a project on protecting the corals came from our instructor Zhang who mentioned to us the current situation of corals. From her introduction, we knew that the corals are in danger of bleaching. This led us to think about what we could do to slow down the bleaching process. She told us that we could start with the antioxidant network of zooxanthella and learn how to use synthetic biology to enhance the resistance of corals to abiotic stresses.
Furthermore, Dr. Shuang Miao provided us with the method of experiment. Professor Honglei Jin proved the feasibility of our idea.
