The GO Paris-Saclay team is hosted by the I2BC (Institute of Integrative Biology of the Cell). We have all the facilities to conduct our project safely and securely. The biosafety level of our work space was level 1.

Goal of the project :

We have generated an E. coli chassis K12 strain devoid of DNA. To remove DNA from the cell, we used inducible nucleases from phages. For some experiments, we introduced in the bacteria (before inducing the nuclease expression) a plasmid encoding Cpg2, an enzyme that can biotransform a pollutant.

Bacteria strain: Escherichia coli K12 strains (BW25113)

Virus : MS2 phage MS2

Biobricks: nuclease from phages, Cpg2

No specific risk can arise from these experiments other than risks associated with the manipulation of genetically engineered Escherichia coli in an ordinary lab work in a level 1 security laboratory.
