Overview:

We divide our Human Practice into two sections—Public Engagement and Integrated Human Practice.

In public engagement section, we granted questionnaire in our community to find out the public’s understanding of and attitudes towards synthetic biology. We concluded a low understanding rate from our data collection, so that we came up with some possibly effective ways to propagate synthetic biology. For example, we established a club in our school to share basic knowledge with our fellow students, and we also attended a broadcast program to popularize synthetic biology in our city. During these processes, we realized that it is difficult for the majority to understand our project. Therefore, we used an electrical circuit to analogize our genetic circuit for the demonstration of our design as we found it feasible to deliver synthetic biological concept by comparing with electrical circuit.

In Integrated Human Practice section, we interviewed experts in various field including the director of laboratory medicine and electronics engineer to affirm the feasibility and propose possible application of our project. We got suggestion from other teams after sharing the project with each other. To obtain further improvement, we took part in CCiC (Conference of China iGEMer Community) and received feedbacks from judges. All the suggestions and feedbacks we attained have important influence on our project.
