       We desire to build a light-control bacterial co-culture system which can dynamically regulate the proportion of the bacteria.

       We used two orthogonal light control systems to receive light of different colors. Two orthogonal quorum sensing systems can transmit upstream signals to specific bacteria to produce toxins and antitoxins, respectively, thereby controlling the number of bacteria.

       Initially, we characterized the light-control part and the combination of the light-control part and quorum sensing part. Here are the results.

       Then we characterized the co-culture system. The two kinds of E.coli carry GFP and RFP respectively. First, with the illumination of the red light for 13 hours, the ratio of E.coli carrying GFP to E.coli carrying RFP is about 1 to 1. Based on that, with the illumination of blue light for another 13 hours, the ratio becomes 3 to 1 approximately and with the illumination of the green light for 12 hours, the ratio becomes about 1 to 3.
