On April 13th, the NYUSH iGEM Team hosted the iGEM Shanghai Regional Conference. Some 170 iGEMers from 20 teams gathered together to share their research, participate in workshops and learn more about After iGEM opportunities available to them outside of the competition.
The teams were divided into break rooms where they were able to interact with their respective “buddy teams” and learn from their experiences in the iGEM competition. During the conference, we set up a Conference Group Chat which is used frequently to ask each other questions on research, human practice initiatives, and competition advice. Conference participants were also able to ask questions and receive advice from veterans of the iGEM competition, as well as iGEM Asian Ambassador, Dorothy Zhang.
This year, many of the members of the NYUSH iGEM team are new to the competition. Team US_AFRL_CarrollHSwas kind enough to share their helpful online wiki guide with our team to help us design our website and help us troubleshoot our source code. The NYU Shanghai iGEM team also welcomed Mike the Microbe to Shanghai. US_AFRL_CarrollHS created this photo series to unite the global iGEM community in a simple but fun way. We hope you enjoy these cute pictures of Mike our Shanghai lab!
Throughout the summer, the NYU Shanghai iGEM Team was in close contact with our "sister school" NYU Abu Dhabi. Our teams participated in skype calls, and exchanged questions via messagw during the research period. We even welcomed one of their members to our NYU Shanghai campus for the fall semester, and they welcomed one of our team members to their Abu Dhabi campus. Thank you, NYU_Abu_Dhabi!
Our team was thrilled to be able to help out our friends at WashingtonUniversity. Their team needed help translating their outreach booklet into an audiobook. After providing us with an English script, our team worked with Botchan Lab Tokyoto audio record it in Japanese.
