COMIC STRIPS

Not just geographical boundaries, we also went beyond technological boundaries: moving from digital to print with a comic book. Now, while this might seem like a step backwards, it is an important step to enhance the penetrability of our material at the grassroots level. Although access to the internet has increased exponentially in India, our reach via YouTube was constrained. As we want to spread our messages primarily amongst school children, we decided to design and distribute a series of comic strips that explains simple concepts of biotechnology. Our first edition, which is ready to be published, focusses on “Central Dogma of Life and molecular aspects of Sickle cell anaemia ” - The GeneY Theory!

Currently, we are working to translate the comic book into various Indian languages while collaborating with other organisations to stimulate interest among laymen in the field of biotechnology by translating articles and so on. In all our efforts, we have received tremendous support from Dr K. Vijayraghavan (Principle Scientific Advisor to Govt. of India) and the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology. Also, the entire Department of Biotechnology at IIT Madras has been really helpful in our fledgling years. We would like to thank them and everyone else who had a part, however small, to play in our humble attempt to set right a historical bias.
