Demonstration

For demonstration of our project, we aim to design a portable and user-friendly device for farmers to use for BXW infection screening in the early stage. Our device is composed of three components, a reagent bottle with a test solution sealed with a piece of thin plastic film, a ring in the middle and a cap attached with a screw tip for sampling.

To use our device, the first thing is to uncap the device and discard the ring in the central part. The ring does not perform any functions for the detection but it is important to protect the solutions inside the reagent bottle from damage while transporting. After the disposal of the ring, samples are collected by inserting the screw tip into the banana. Then, the screw tip with banana tissue is immersed in the test solution after piercing through the thin plastic film. By experimental results, after 20 hours of incubation, red signal would be formed.

The test solution contains liquid bacterial culture, that includes our biobrick which the cell content is regulated with OD500.
