Merja is an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems at the Aalto University of Chemical Engineering and Research Professor in Industrial Biotechnology and Synthetic biology at VTT, and the Principal scientist of Synbio Powerhouse. Merja is perhaps the most adept scientist in synthetic biology in Finland and has helped us a lot with guidance, contacts and opportunities such as attending the Biotech theme week.
Christopher Jonkergouw
Chris is a doctoral candidate in Biomolecular materials research group in the Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems. Chris has helped our project starting from lab planning, execution, creation of plasmids constructs – and providing us with some of his plasmids to DNA orders and many practical things on how to navigate through the university’s bureaucracy.
Bartosz Gabryelczyk
Bartosz is an academy postdoctoral researcher working in Biomolecular materials research group, in the Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems at Aalto University. Bartosz has helped us with his expertise and experiences throughout the scope of our project, e.g. with DNA orders, sequencing, protein expression and cell fractioning.
Pekka Heino
Docent, University Lecturer in Molecular and Integrative Biosciences Research Programme at the University of Helsinki, Pekka has helped us in the ideation and planning phase of the project.
Ritva Virkola
University lecturer in the Molecular and Integrative Biosciences Research Programme and member of the Molecular Mechanisms of Bacteria in Infectious Diseases and Health Research Programme at University of Helsinki. Ritva instructed us in sample preparation for microscopy and kindly provided us the materials for it.
Benita Westerlund-Wikström
University lecturer the Molecular and Integrative Biosciences Research Programme and principal investigator of her research group in the Molecular Mechanisms of Bacteria in Infectious Diseases and Health Research Programme at University of Helsinki. Benita helped us with general questions about biotechnological protein production and bacterial cultures.
Peter Sarin
Docent in molecular biology, university lecturer in the Molecular and Integrative Biosciences Research Programme and principal investigator of the RNAcious laboratory at University of Helsinki. Peter helped us gain insight into optimization of heterologous protein production through addressing codon bias and tRNA modifications.
Suvi Taira
University lecturer in the Molecular and Integrative Biosciences Research Programme at University of Helsinki. Suvi gave us valuable feedback on our ideas of genetic editing and measurement techniques.
Eeva Vakkari
MA, MPhil student from the University of Helsinki, Eeva has provided our team assistance in the ideation and planning phase, in addition to giving psychological support to tackle the project.
Ulla Åhman & Kaisa Hytti
University lab technicians
Tuula Palmén (SynBio)
Tuula Palmén from Synbio Powerhouse invited us to an business angel and investor event called BioBusiness Builder event where we met potential sponsors got helpful advice
Carmela Kantor-Aaltonen and Anni Siltanen (Kemianteollisuus ry)
Olli Silvennoinen and Kustaa Multamäki (HiLIFE, Helsinki Institute of Life Science)
Päivi Äijälä and Anjariitta Savolainen
Päivi and Anjariitta from Caleidocons Oy organized a team coaching session for us and gave tips for smooth teamwork during the project.
Christa Uusi-Rauva
Christa gave several presentation coaching sessions for us and helped us with pitching, taking our presentation skills to the next level.
Martti Jerkku
Martti introduced Aalto Design Factory to us. We got to use their facilities for the poster printing, for example.
