Have you ever met someone with whom one encounter is just enough to get them ingrained deep in your brain? That is Sriram for you - a star student, a one-in-all friend, and an interesting human to be with. The best part about him is, though he can't crack the funniest of the jokes, he can still laugh heartily at other's jokes, all the while also taking on jokes about him very sportingly. He has guided all three iGEM teams of REC-CHENNAI, ever since it's inception, one hundred percent, through every phase that the team has been through, be it rough or surprisingly smooth (but mostly rough :P). Its relevant to mention here that Sriram was selected among the top 25 students at All-India level for the "B4 Young Scientist Program on Synthetic Biology " organized by Harvard University, Cambridge in January 2019.
Vijay or Vijay anna as we all call him was the team leader of iGEM 2017 team and played a pivotal role in helping iGEM team to be established. He is currently pursuing his masters in Biotechnology in Australia. He says iGEM was a dream for him when they started the team back in 2017. He was thoroughly amazed by the idea of Synthetic Biology and he was amazed by all the work done by previous teams, which in turn inspired them to start a team themselves. He calls himself a good cook which he said with a laugh. He loves reading books and poetry. His favourite thing to do in his downtime is to listen to speeches of scientists or meditate.
There’s a deadline approaching and you don’t know what to do? Mohan Kumar will save the day. He is reliable, pragmatic and knows how to get things done most efficiently. His skills and talent have stood the test of time and as proof, you can see that he has a long list of projects ranging from Microbiology to Neurobiology. His attention then turned to Synthetic Biology to learn exclusively what single-celled organisms are capable of. His work is focused on polymeric drug delivery systems in which synthesis and characterisation of nanofibers, hydrogels and other nanoparticles stays as his favourite field of research. He is currently working with nanogels and nanoparticles for delivery of Anti-Alzheimer drugs for treatment of Alzheimer's disease using zebrafish model and other in vivo systems. Apart from being a boffin, he enjoys a cooked meal at the end of a long day.
Dhakshanya has been a well-known student in our department. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Biotechnology. She is currently working on Genetic Engineering and her interests lie in Embryology and Implantation Genetics. She joined iGEM because she wanted to explore the field of Genetics more. She is quite popular in our college for being a all-rounder from academics to sports. She finds it energising and fun to play basketball and the only other thing that gives her the same happiness is research.
