Introduction
The iGEM Orléans’ team is participating for the first time in the iGEM competition. Although we had to learn the different contest codes by ourselves, we are very happy to have been able to collaborate and exchange with different teams. We thank them for trusting us and allowing us to participate in their work.
WLC-Milwaukee collaboration
Milwaukee’s team is working on the creation of a sensor to detect lead contamination in the water. Lead poisoning is a major health risk in their region. With our project to create bacteria that can remove heavy metals, we discussed use our modified bacteria to help them remove heavy metals from their environment.
On the other hand, the use of their sensor could allow a rapid assessment of the lead content in sewage sludge.

Washington collaboration
Washington’s team contacted us in order to propose to translate into French different activities created by them for popularizing and allow children and teenagers to understand scientific facts through play activities. We translated around 13 activities and we encourage you to look at them if you have some educational purposes or you want to teach the basics of molecular biology in a funny way. We also gave them the activity we created about the ethanol bioproduction (see our Education and engagement section).
