Future plans

For this year, we set out a few goals that we would like to achieve by the completion of the project. However, there were certain obstacles and challenges that were out of our control. Some of our goals included the construct design, the validation of part, the design of the bioreactor, and the synthesis of Carbon Quantum Dots. Here are our future plans for the project:
- To properly design the construct for Rhodopsin integration
- To test the effect of Rhodopsin on Hydrogen gas production efficiency
- To test the absorbance the cross-section of cyanobacteria integrated with Rhodopsin with Carbon Quantum Dots
- To start working on the construction of BioReactor for our cyanobacteria producing Hydrogen Gas

These are the plans for the wet lab. We also have some plans for our startup from the entrepreneurial perspective. We would like to receive our IP and fully protect our technology including the strain and the construct. We would also like to collaborate with more companies in the hydrogen fuel industry and test our products in real hydrogen fuel cells and cars. We think that proving the laboratory experiments in real life conditions/settings is the best way to prove the concept of the technology. Therefore, we are in search of companies/organizations that we would be able to test our hydrogen fuel and catalytic nanomaterials. Once we have successful results, it is a good time to scale-up. Establishing as a company with full-time employees and planning the building of bioreactors for the mass production of hydrogen gas and producing nanomaterials.

Regarding the Integrated Human Practices, Public Engagement, and Collaborations, we think that we have contributed to these sections of the competition as much as we could. Nevertheless, the future plans for these sections is to publish a synthetic biology book for children and high school students in Kazakh and Russian. There are not many books available about synthetic biology and genetic engineering in our local languages and we think that we would be able to draft a first copy with the help of our peers.
