Collaborations

iGEM Düsseldorf

We designed postcards for all the iGEM teams that participated in the iGEM Duesseldorf’s postcard collaboration. This collaboration helped us to promote our project and learn about other teams’ projects in a very creative and interesting way. Thanks to iGEM Duesseldorf for organizing this collaboration that involved all the other teams.

iGEM Stony Brook

Social media challenge that was organized for all the iGEM teams on June 2019. The challenge was unique as it made our team really prepare for each day’s task and we went above and beyond to complete the tasks by the end of the day for a whole week. We made a fail video, went on a teambuilding, posted about synthetic biology in Kazakh and Russian, and introduced to the insights of our project. Thank you iGEM Stony Brook for the organization of such a well thought out social media challenge!

iGEM NUS x NTU

Our team advisor Daulet Aitymbayev went to the LifeHacks! 2.0 event organized by NUS and NTU iGEM teams in Singapore. He shared his experience to fellow iGEM teams as an iGEM alumni having participated in the competition for two years – in 2017 and 2018. He encouraged high school students to pursue a synthetic biology degree in the future as well as to participate in the iGEM competition.

iGEM Moscow Team

1. We had a very fruitful conversation with iGEM Moscow team, discussing our projects and challenges we faced. iGEM Moscow team has done substantial work on detecting the infected ticks using the CRISPR-Cas9 system and relatable software system. In order to show that their system works efficiently and is user-friendly for specialists with the general Bioinformatics background, we tested their system on our own. We performed the substantial search on CRISPR targets on tick microbiota, and by using code created by Moscow team our computer scientist specialist checked on the presence of the target.
2. Data is an important part of any research and project, therefore the Moscow team had relied on the other iGEM teams to gather up the information on tick-borne diseases. More than half of our team had taken part in this survey, helping out our colleagues from another country.
3. We also participated in the Sportakiad challenge organized by the Moscow team. Thanks to them, our lab members stayed healthy and tuned during the lab work!
4. iGEM Moscow Team needed to conduct some analysis in order to find CRISPR/Cas targets in the genomes of ticks microbiota. Moscow Team provided us with the list of the organisms that exist in the ticks and also they sent us the code to conduct the analysis. Our team members have found all the genomes from the list (in total 112 different genomes) and uploaded them in FASTA format. Afterward, we optimized their code for it to work in the Jupyter Notebook. Using the modified code we processed all 112 genomes through it in order to find CRISPR/Cas target sequences and saved them in the CSV files. We saved all FASTA and CSV files in the Google Drive and them back to iGEM Moscow for their further manipulations.

iGEM Moscow Team

The chess tournament organized by iGEM Moscow Team was held between the iGEM teams. All mentioned teams played at least two games in the double-elimination format, which gave all of them a second chance. Chess is the best game to train your brain, but also to relax. The switching of activities during the long incubation times allowed for the stress relief, and during the tournament, we got to know other teams better. Congrats to the iGEM Tudy for winning!

iGEM Saint Joseph

With iGEM Saint Joseph we had a cozy talk related to our project. We were amazed at how they performed during the whole iGEM period! We were discussing the main topics of our projects, problems, and challenges. As both of our projects’ goal is to fight against industrial waste and a safe future environment, the conversation was very fruitful and motivating.

iGEM Macquarie Australia

Macquarie team has substantial experience in working with Hydrogen gas, and that is why this conversation was vital for us. We were very interested in their Hydrogen detection system, and their ideas and advice have brought us to better solutions for our measurement system. Thanks to their last projects, we were able to measure the amount of gas produced using the highly available lab equipment.

iGEM Costa Rica, iGEM TAS_Taipei, and iGEM Tuebingen

Participated in an iGEMxSDG challenge in order to know each other’s project and SDG problem we are solving. This way we were able to deepen our knowledge about the Sustainable Development Goals set forth by the UN. We think this collaboration was valuable as we read and researched more about the goals and got to understand how valuable our project was not only for Kazakhstan or one industry but how it can affect the whole world and the population. Thank you iGEM Costa Rica for organizing this challenge and spreading awareness about the SDGs!
