Problems

  • Indonesia is the second largest aquaculture producer in the world and the white-leg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) sector accounts for about 60% of Indonesia's total fisheries export.
  • However, white-leg shrimp production still faces major losses because of various disease.
  • This happened because shrimps do not have adaptive immune system so they are relatively more susceptible to disease than fish do.
  • Moreover, aquaculture ponds are dynamic systems and disease is very hard to be predicted.
