Welcome to iBowu-China's Team Page
Our team consists of 19 members, that include 2 instructors, sixteen students, and one advisor. Our team is a very diverse team, with members coming from Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen in China, as well as the east coast and west coast in the United States. This quality of our team allows us to develop various innovative ideas through out the project, and the long-distance communications as well as collaborations finally form sturdy cultural bridge across the pacific ocean.
The Respected (yet sometimes joked upon) Leaders
Hedy Zhu
Team Leader - China
HP Member
Hey, I'm Hedy and I am currently a Y11 student at Dulwich College
Beijing. Being a first year
competitor of iGEM and the co-leader of our team, I did not know what to expect from it at
first, but in the shortest time, I had fun in every single aspect of the project: from project
design to human practices. Not surprisingly, even though leading a team can be hard sometimes, I
still truly enjoyed the few months that we spent in the lab (unless someone messes up the
experiment, again) and all the arguments over our team logo design.
Fun fact: I am competitive sailor, corgi owner and a not-so-great
artist.
Linda Liu
Team Leader - USA
Wiki Design Member
I am Linda "Juehan" Liu, currently a junior at Palo Alto High School in
California. I specialize
in biology and website design as a high school student. The reason that I chose to participate in iGEM is that I enjoy
the challenge of scientific discussions and learning about all innovative ideas. Besides
learning synthetic biology through competing in iGEM, I also earned a precious experience to
plan and execute a project with my team, iBowu-China. With this team work, I am able to
contribute to building up a project from scratch and to learn cool stuff from cool people.
Fun Fact: I love music. Dark chocolate is my weakness.
The Obedient (yet whimsical) Group Leaders&Members
Harry Fang
PD Co-Leader
This is Harry, a 11th grade student from The High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China ICC and the also the head of our lab. I’m a procrastinator most of the time but as I put up my lab coat I become a workaholic repeating the experiment until I got a positive result or 12 o’clock and 12 o’clock it is most of the time. However, our progress is quite fine anyway. While others may pleasure of a positive result after millions of failures, I enjoy negative results. Just joking, why on earth would I enjoy that?
Fun fact: Like to spend most of my vacation procrastinating or diving.
David Wei
Modeling Leader
Hello, I am David Wei from Princeton International School of Mathematics and Science. I've taken part in modeling and web design, and I'm the leader of modeling team... Oh, I think I need to make it funny. Doing research is an interesting thing,I like biology but I'm better at programming, and I have learned HTML and python. Well, modeling is an important part,I tried my best on my work, even spending days and days in front of computer. (Oh! My eyesight!)
Jiayi Li
HP Leader
I am Jiayi Li, a year 10 student from Harrow International School in
Beijing. I have a
genuine
passion in biological sciences driven fruom my previous experiences and knowledge at school.
By
participating in iGem, I am able to develop a further insight into this field as well as
consolidating my current knowledge. I also find iGEM a great opportunity to develop my
leadership through various Human Practices activities, which include organizing events and
communicating with people from different social backgrounds.
Fun Fact: I am a Disney fan.
Nick Chen
Wiki Design Leader
Now an 8th grader at Fay School in Massachusetts, I constantly Drift across the lab and the so-called office, I've taken part in
various stages of our
project. I've witnessed the highs and lows of our team. Usually leashed next to my laptop
and
jamming my fingers on the keyboard, punching lines of code into the system. Though this job
seems tedious and seemingly forced, I actually enjoy it. From a young age, I've always been
a
programming enthusiast. Procuring lore from various websites, I've gained the basics of HTML
and
CSS required for web design. Along with my preliminary knowledge in Python, I've helped Web
Design in many ways and proved to be a valuable member.
Fun Facts: I spend my free time in a slightly claustrophobic squash court.
Peter Qi
PD Co-Leader
I am Shaoyuan Qi, the freshmen of George school in PA. I am sure if you
are not Chinese, you
will never pronounce right my name. So you can call me Peter. It is my first year to attend in
this competition. Glad to meet you all.

Danny Cui
PD Member
Hi! I'm Danny Cui. Hailing from the Loomis Chaffee school in Windsor, CT
of the United
States, I
am interested in Biology, Latin, and English. Shifting between the lab, in front of my
laptop,
and discussions with my teammates on a daily basis, I am a part of both the Project Design
and
Human Practice teams of iBowu-China. I have worked intensively on recording the progress of
our
PD team throughout the summer, keeping a detailed journal of all of our daily experiments.
As
someone who is closely involved with both the PD and HP teams, I also helped compile and
upload
a list of biological parts used.
Fun Fact: I run on average 50 miles year round.
Ian Liu
PD & HP Member
Hello everyone, my name is zheyuan Liu. I am a 10th grade student from
the stony brook
school. I am a big fan of biology and engineering. I am very happy to participate in the IGEM
contest
which cooperates engineering and biology and provides future scientists with a wonderful
stage. There are many talented individuals in our group and I am honored to work with these people.
I am a member of both project design and human practice and I am really happy to support my
team.
Fun Facts: I am way more interesting than my introduction.
Holly Zhuang
HP Member
Hi, I am Holly. Having attended the Stuart Country Day School of New
Jersey since 9th grade, I am a group
leader of iBowu-China's Human Practice team. In addition to making potato cookbooks and conducting
surveys, I am also closely involved with the development of the entrepreneurial plan and the Project
Design team.
My understanding of the laboratory part of the project has allowed me to shape more meaningful human
practice activities. As someone who studies in the U.S., I have also had some special opportunities
that offered
unique benefits to the team. For example, I was able to participate in a short trip to Peru during
which
I interviewed local farmers who are plagued by soft rot, the very same disease our project aims to
solve.
Fun Fact: I've been watching every US open tennis game since 2017.
Zoe Li
HP Member
Hi all! I'm Zoe from Shenzhen College of International Education. As a
first-year iGEMer,
inexperienced, everything is challenging and innovative here. In my spare time, I would
enjoy myself by reading, doing photography, playing golf and developing skills of guitar and urban
dance. From the initial confusion of joining the iGEM group to gradually integrating into the team,
our advisors, instructors, and teammates have taught me a lot. I exercised my text knowledge,
made friends with many excellent students through the whole process. Curiosity urges me to
explore the unknown, good communication skills enable me to better complete the HP tasks. I am
willing to experience new things every minute of my life.
Annie Xian
PD Member
I am a member of the project design group of our project and have been taking part in lab
work ever since 2019 March, when I began to spend a number of my weekends and holidays in the lab. I
am naturally interested in the field of biological sciences and thereby I joined iGEM in order
to further develop my interest.
Fun Facts: I spent hours trying to write this self-introduction, which is one of the
greatest
challenges I have ever faced in weeks. This turned out to be an unbelievably interesting yet
difficult mental journey in which I eventually conquered my fear of submitting self
introductions.
Richard Han
PD Member
I'm Richard Han, a student from The Branch of The High school Affiliated
to Renmin University of China. I
love science, music, games and sunny weather. As an eighth grader, I'm always curious about biology
and
genetic stuffs. In our team, I'm a member of the human practice part. This is my first year
participating in iGEM, but I'm full of confidence. Through the competition, I'm hoping to gain more
knowledge about
synthetic biology, and make some new friends.
Rouxuan Yu
PD Member
Hello, my name is Alice and I am a 14 years-old rising 10th grader who
studies at Beijing World Youth
Academy. I am very curious about new things and I also really like to create new things, such as
edit
genes and observe the body structure of different animals. I see countless possibilities with
Biology and
believe there still is an abyss of knowledge to discover in this field. I believe we can use our
knowledge in
Biology to make the world even better than it already is. This is my reasoning in participating in
IGEM.
I enjoy spending my free time listening to music and singing. Music gives me inspiration. I also
like
playing volleyball with my schoolmates because I also enjoy working as a team.
Oliver Yuan
Modeling Member
What's up guys, I'm Oliver, a tenth grade student. I study in the
Experimental High School Attached to
Beijing Normal University. I am in charge of the modeling page and data analysis.
Fun Facts: I am a Liverpool fan and my favorite song is United Road.
Sam Wang
Wiki Design Member
My name is Sam. I'm a senior student in Shenzhen Middle school. I would
like to describe myself as a
passionate and fun guy. My interests are greatly widespread. They include science, sport, art and so
on. I always loved to try things that are new to me. Take music as an instance, music on the
Billboard
is not my only choice, I also love the classical as well. I play the saxophone in the school
orchestra,
but sometimes I play and listen to jazz. By the way, earnest attitude is my standard of working or
studying, so I'm always making my best effort.
