Introduction
Each of the members has taken the safety training of item design and project design, e.g. professors and our advisors coaching us on how to experiment correctly and avoid any mistakes.
Laboratory safety
Our team is doing research in the security level 1 laboratory. The creatures we use, Escherichia coli strain: DH5α, BL21, C41, C43…, the strains are suitable for the S1 laboratory, where we are doing research. In addition, Escherichia coli molecular clone, in order to choose the genetic modified Escherichia coli that we are interested in, has grown as drug resistance successfully. Because of we have chosen the Escherichia coli we need, the rest of the growth medium will be the waste, but they still contain lots of Escherichia coli. If the drug resistance genetic modified Escherichia coli are outflow, it could be flourish and harmful in the nature world. To prevent the situation, we add bleaching agent in the growth medium or we could send it to sterilize for safety.
It is inevitable to avoid microorganism in our project. In order to prevent our team members from any harmful effects, every experiment must comply with laboratory safety standard which includes:
- Eating, drinking, smoking, playing, running and other unsafe activities are prohibited in the laboratory.
- Dispose of all chemical waste properly.
- All experimenters have to wear protective gear, like gloves and safety goggles.
- Lab wares that are easily contaminated with bio-materials, like tip and glassware, must be autoclaved.
- All experimenters have to wear protective gear, like gloves and safety goggles.
- To prevent the fire, place the fast-burning, inflammable materials at certain position that is away from fire; also, for the safety when accident happens, do not accumulate any mess or clutter.
- Anything that does not related to experiment should be out of the desk.
- Content must be read thoroughly before starting any experiment and always manage to review and optimize experimental methods.
