Esther was invented and made possible by a fantastic team of people. With ๐ช๐ธ๐ฌ๐ท๐ธ๐ช๐ฐ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ณ๐ฎ๐ฉ๐ณ๐ฑ๐ซ๐ท๐ฑ๐น๐ฎ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ท๐ฎ๐ณ๐จ๐ณ๐ฉ๐ช diverse backgrounds and perspectives we went from ambitious strangers to dedicated creators, and most importantly, became great friends.
Nerea Capon
- Team Leader
- MSc. Neurochemistry and Molecular Neurobiology
- Stockholm University
Nerea chose iGEM because she loved the idea of developing something that could have a use in society or to the science community. She was also attracted to the fact that it was not just a project you develop in a lab and "that's it"; it also has a lot of work behind, such as contacting sponsors or presenting your idea to the general public. This was a side of science that she wanted to explore!
Andriana Mantzafou
- Wet lab and Project Development
- MS. Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology
- Stockholm University and Karolinska Institutet
Andriana chose iGEM because she likes the idea that with dedicated work you can make an idea feasible from scratch in a few months! She knew she would acquire important soft skills from this experience which would help her be more competent in academia and outside of it, in the future.
Ayleen Burt
- Media and Design, Wet Lab
- BSc. Biotechnology
- KTH Royal Institute of Technology
Ayleen chose iGEM for the exciting adventure and to learn more about synthetic biology, whilst also getting the opportunity to train her creative side. She wanted to solve problems with likeminded students and experience the Giant Jamboree!
Azhar Gazizova
- Wet lab and Project Development
- MSc. Molecular Techniques in Life Sciences
- KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm University
Azhar chose IGEM because she was motivated by the opportunities of synthetic biology to solve everyday issues. In addition, she wanted to meet inspired people from scientific community.
Itisha Adhikari
- Project Development and Human Practices
- MSc. Bio-entrepreneurship
- Karolinska Institutet
iGEM is about raising awareness for synthetic biology and understanding its application in solving problems spanning over a spectrum of areas. Itisha was most excited about the fact that iGEM gives the freedom and space for innovative thinking and troubleshooting of scientific blemishes which is incredibly rewarding for an explorer like her.
Jonas Johansson
- Media and Design, Wiki
- Lecturer, Industry Leader
- Beckmans college of Design, Hyper Island
Jonas chose iGEM because he wanted to pursue a professional relationship with nature, and demonstrate the possibilities of working alongside the greatest design process in the world, evolution.
Joost Bergman
- Finance and Wiki
- MSc. Biomedicine
- Karolinska Institutet
Joost applied for iGEM for the exciting challenge in an interesting field!
Anali De Luca
- Dry lab and Educational Human Practices
- MSc. Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology
- KTH Royal Institute of Technology
Anali chose to be in iGEM because it is an experience of a lifetime you can only do as a student. iGEM is the obvious choice for any biotech/med student who wants to challenge themselves, learn more about themselves and about the field they are in/will work in.
Lisa Faye
- Finance and Media
- MSc. Medical Biotechnology
- KTH Royal Institute of Technology
Lisa chose to join iGEM because she liked the idea of running project from A to Z. Finding financial support, working in labs, organising events - we have plenty of opportunities to express our creativity and put innovative ideas to practice.
Milda Valiukonyte
- Dry lab and Project Development
- MSc. Molecular Techniques in Life Sciences
- KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm University
Milda chose iGEM because she was interested in working with a team of other creative young people on a biological problem to help improve the world.
Rebecca de Sousa
- Finance and Wet lab
- MSc. Biomedicine
- Karolinska Institutet
Rebecca chose iGEM because she wanted to work in a team of ambitious students who will have the possibility to create a system or device with real and meaningful application. She knew that iGEM would give her research and engineering experiences beyond that which she learned at school.
Roudlotul Jannah
- Project development and Human Practices
- MSc. Molecular Techniques in Life Sciences
- KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm University
Jannah chose to join iGEM again because she cannot move on from it. The journey of iGEM was incredibly amazing. She didn't want to miss it this year!
Sabina Monge-Navarro Otero
- Human Practices
- MSc. Biomedicine
- Karolinska Institutet
For Sabina, iGEM seemed like an incredible opportunity to learn more about synthetic biology and create something amazing with science! It also seemed as a great way of creating a bridge between creativity and biology, since there are limited opportunities to reflect artistic creativity in science.
