At the beginning of the new September semester, the Maastricht Science Programme (MSP) organized for their new students an introduction week, so that students could get to know to the staff members, the buildings, the study programme itself and possibilities offered to them at university. Team MSP-Maastricht organised and conducted a workshop about research as a student at the university. Next to integrated practical courses and projects, we informed new students about the iGEM project and the concept of Synthetic Biology. We explained what a typical study year as an iGEM team member looks like, using examples from other teams and our own. Our aim was to increase the new students’ awareness of synthetic biology and enthuse inspire them to implement their own research ideas and apply for the next years iGEM team.
