Layout

The box is designed to control intensity and time for which blue light (LED) is ON or OFF. This is necessary as a part of y=our project deals with a Blue-light regulated gene circuit. The box is a 20cm x 20cm x 20cm cube without a bottom. It is made of black poly-acrylic sheets of 3mm thickness. The box is secured by solid acrylic cubes on the inner corners and each edge is doubly taped. The lid of the box on the inside has a 3W 3.3V blue LED attached by double tape.

Circuit

The system runs on 220V AC. The 220V AC is recieved parallely by a 12V adapter and a 3V adapter. However, one of the input of 3V adapter is connected to the relay timer (IC YYC-2S). The timer is switched on using a push button and it runs on 12V DC. There are multiple timer programs. The ones of specific interest to us were the infinite ON-OFF cycles, continously switched ON, etc. The 3V adapter sends power to a LED Dimmer which is essentially used to manually change the voltage recieved by the LED and hence, control its intensity.

The maximum intensity achieved is 968 lux and minimum is 89lux. The Blue-light box was used to characterise the Blue-light repressed gene circuit BBa_K3285000 .
