Team: Hong_Kong_HKUST

On 5 Aug - 7 Aug 2019, our team organized a synthetic biology summer camp for the secondary school students. There were more than 100 students from more than 20 schools joined our camp. During the camp, we taught our fellow students the basic molecular biology techniques and concept of synthetic biology and genetic engineering.

The camp was organized in HKUST, so we invited members of Hong_Kong_HKUST team, including Andreas, Jaman, Owen and Tiny, to join our camp as tutors and helped us to hold the camp. Besides, Hong_Kong_HKUST team also mentored our team members about modeling. They organized several modeling workshops for our team members and provided opinion to our project model.

Team: Hong_Kong_UCCKE

Hong_Kong_UCCKE team and us had collaboration in different areas. First, in our human practice, Hong_Kong_UCCKE helped us to conduct our consumer survey. They also helped us to validate our samples' copper concentration with their colorimeter. In return, we helped them in producing their biological detergents and provided consumables, such as IPTG, to support their lab works.

We shared our project and exchanged ideas during the meetup. We also provided them with some experiments consumables.

Every year, our team will organize a symposium for all the local high school iGEM teams to meet up. We aim to provide a casual and fun platform for all the high school iGEMers to share their projects and ideas. More importantly, we can get known to each other to facilitate communications and collaborations. This year, we worked with team Hong_Kong_UCCKE to hold the meetup at their school. They provided the venue, helpers and presentation equipment.

The teams present their projects to the audience during the meetup.

Team: Hong_Kong_LFC_PC

We helped Hong_Kong_LFC_PC team to do Gibson Assembly to assemble their large uricase gene fragments. In return, they kindly lend their ultralow freezer space for us to store competent cells and they helped us in preparing the DH5α calcium competent cells, which we used to transform and grow up plasmid.
