Bjarne's enthusiasm for iGEM was incredibly contagious and always motivated us, even when things didn't go so well. He was always available and helped us wherever he could with his tremendous expertise. With his help we managed to turn many small ideas into a harmonious project.

Everything Nicole does, she does 100 percent. So also with her Advisor role at iGEM. No matter what question Nicole was asked, she took care of it. She always had good advice and a very good assessment of the feasibility of our ideas.

Oda is always in a good mood, even on a Sunday morning at the seminar. It was always nice to ask her for advice, because her positive nature didn't make our problems seem so bad anymore.

Nika has participated in iGEM several times and has a lot of experience, especially in organizational matters. She has always surprised us with her eye for all the details that we would have overlooked and forgotten without her.

Is our primary PI and professor for biochemistry at the University of Hamburg. She always accompanied our project with her expertise. Her amazing talent to give helpful advice on every topic while giving us total freedom. Her unique approach makes iGEM the learning experience it is designed to be. She also gave workshops about scientific writing in and presentation style.

Dr. Czech was a lecturer at our university for six years and we were incredibly sad to see him leave during our project. He has a lot of experience dealing with students and loves to pass on some of his knowledge. Several iGEM teams before us already enjoyed his support and we were also able to benefit from his expertise during our project’s early stages.

Patrick joined the Ignatova group late into our project but that did not stop him from supporting us almost immediately. Any concern we approached him with was resolved quickly and faar beyond our expectations.

As a PhD student Suki helped us with a lot of the specifics of synthetic biology. She was available for all questions no matter how basic. Whether we wanted to know incubation times or configurations for our equipment.

Dr. Suki Albers

Giovana supplied us with various protocols. She even added a lot of personal tips for good measure

Dr. Heller supervised our work in the chemistry lab. We are incredibly grateful for the trust he placed in us and all his encouragement. Thanks to the extensive experience he shared with us we got to learn a lot about analyzing nanoparticles and conducting research in general.

All organizational questions regarding our laboratory in the Ignatova Group were handled by Christine. If we needed to order materials for our experiments or use the groups equipment, she was our contact person and made every effort to enable our work in the lab.

Partners

Mirko Himmel

Mirko Himmel is a biochemist working at the Research Group for Biological Arms Control at the University of Hamburg’s Centre of Science and Peace Research. We had several conversations and interviews with him about biosafety and biosecurity.

Prof. Dr. Daniel N. Wilson

Prof. Dr. Daniel N. Wilson heads the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The research group focuses on the Ribosome and Regulation of Translation, Ribosome-targeting Antibiotics, antibiotic resistance mechanisms, translation stalling and Cryo-electron microscopy. They provided us with additional lab space and a FACS Calibur.

Prof. Dr. Andrew Torda

Prof. Dr. Andrew Torda is a leader of a working group at the University of Hamburg, focusing on protein structure prediction, RNA sequence designing, protein and RNA structure comparison and other challenging subjects. We discussed the predicted protein structures wtíth him, which are part of our model.

Thomas Gorochowski

Thomas Gorochowski is a synthetic biologist and complexity scientist that was originally trained in computer science. Attempting to develop efficient architectures for cellular information processing using biologically derived parts and principles. We discussed the use of ribozymes in RNA regulated circuits with him.

Alexander Green

Dr. Green is the author of the paper (Green 2017) our project is based on. He is an assistant professor at the Biodesign Institute at the Arizona State University. Dr. Green was a great support when we had trouble with completing our project. We discussed with him our first results and the following steps.

SFZ

The SFZ offers children a professional setting outside of school to engage in research and science. We provided our expertise and held a presentation there.

Stephanie Kaßner

Is an E-Commerce student of the Fachhochschule Wedel. She helped us with the implementation of the wiki and the framework.

Markus Große Ophoff

Markus Große Ophoff is a german chemist and the director of the Institution for Environment Communication at the German Federal Environmental Foundation. We had a productive interview with him about how to communicate science to people which don’t get in touch with science in their daily life.
