Collaborations

p1

The success of our project could not be completed without the help of other iGEM teams and organizations. Their mentoring program, collaborations and idea exchange is a great asset for us to develop our project. This year, we have completed both inter-team collaboration and collaboration outside iGEM community.

Inter-Team Collaborations

HKU iGEM Team has always been our great mentor throughout the whole iGEM journey. This year, they collaborated with our team in three aspects.

1. Mentorship program hosted by HKU iGEM Team

As high school students still have quite a distinct knowledge gap between the our current knowledge and synthetic biology knowledge required in iGEM, HKU iGEM Team hosted workshops to instruct us some advance and up to date synthetic biology information to us. Their workshop serve as an important bridge to connect the knowledge gap mentioned above.

2. Project collaborations with HKU iGEM Team

Because of the restriction common found in high school laboratories in Hong Kong, we are thankful to have HKU iGEM team to help us cloned the four single stranded DNAs responsible for formation of Lactobacillus targeting nano-structure. This collaboration allow us to overcome the obstacles of the shortage of the equipment in our laboratory.

3. Idea exchange with HKU iGEM Team

Besides, HKU iGEM Team has reviewed our process and gave some valuable opinions and suggested improvement to our team when they were hosting Joint School Science Competition (JSSE) in August. Being reviewed in such idea exchange occasion is very important for us to fine tune our project.

Collabotations outside iGEM community

In our earlier studies, Professor Kwan Hoi Shan and his research team from Chinese University of Hong Kong played an important role in inspiring our project direction in two meet up last year, by sharing with us the latest DNA sequence technique and relevant background information regarding probiotic from their research. All these are important in formulating our project idea. Besides, due to our limitation in our high school laboratories, Professor Kwan and his research team demonstrated the DNA extraction method from commercial food sample. The food samples provided are vital in our early part of this project. We would like to express our gratitude to them.
