BBa_K3301002

This construct contains the Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron BT2269 gene that has been codon optimized for E. Coli. It's suggested to secrete an outer membrane protein that aids in starch digestion, which also promotes diversity when present in the human microbiome. The protein is known to be a SusD homolog that serves to break long starches into smaller chains that can pass through the nutrient channel formed by BT2268 (BBa_K3301001), a SusC homolog. When removed from B. theta, the cell’s growth and proliferation slow dramatically (Nakajima et al., 2019). In the intestinal mucosal lining, its production is primarily regulated by IgA secretion. This is the gene directly from B. theta, codon optimized for E. Coli, with some restriction sites edited and the signal sequence removed.

It's suggested to secrete a membrane protein that aids in starch digestion, which also promotes diversity when present in the human microbiome. The protein is known to be a SusC homolog that serves as a channel to admit food into the cell. It pairs with BT2269 (BBa_K3301002), a SusD homolog, to increase the cell’s nutrient absorption. When removed from B. theta, the cell’s growth and proliferation slow dramatically (Nakajima et al., 2019). In the intestinal mucosal lining, its production is primarily regulated by IgA secretion.
