iGEM HU Berlin:
We proudly present you the freshwater algae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. Chlamy, being easy to cultivate and a well understood model organism, poses a powerful tool for synthetic biology. Using state-of-the-art methods of molecular biology we want to establish the freshwater alga as a platform in the iGEM competition. Considering environmental issues Chlamy poses a favorable tool, possessing the capability to fixate Carbon dioxide. To convince you of Chlamy's potential we are developing a new, environment-friendly way of recycling the most common plastic, polyethylene therephtalate (PET).
