ATTRIBUTIONS

Being that this is our first iGEM experience, we are very glad this is something we are able to be a part of. We would like to thank the 2007 Glasgow iGEM team, because their project provided us with the inspiration to move forward with our own. By our efforts, we were able to set up a great opportunity network for current and future science and engineering students at UTA through the Genetic Engineering Society, a student organization that we founded. Collectively, we have learned so much about the world of synthetic biology and how we can contribute to it, as well as the logistical process of being engaged as a registered iGEM team. Our team advisor, Dr. Justyn Jaworski, competed in iGEM back in 2005, so he was able to offer a unique perspective to the foundation and operation of our team.

Our institution does not yet offer an iGEM or synthetic biology course. This experience was implemented as a research project for the summer and implemented by the Genetic Engineering Society. Once we were able to register as a team, we began brainstorming shortly after in April. Our team started lab safety training and training of basic techniques for those who needed in May. Actual progress on our project began in June and July.
