High School Internship Program
To continue our Education efforts, we started the IGEM Internship program. Thanks to the teacher Brenda Cabrera from a local specialized public High School CROEM (Residential Center of Educative Opportunities of Mayagüez). Six students were chosen to shadow our team during the Semester and Summer. They were able to go to team meetings and actively participate in the research and observe laboratory work. The hope is that they can take this knowledge to their school community. These students have shown interest to form an IGEM team of their own schools. Four of these High School Interns became University Interns in August 2019 when they entered UPRM.
University Internship Program
To ensure the continuity of our project, we added University interns to our team. They actively participated in every aspect of our team. They learned how to run an iGEM team. They hope is that they can use what they learned and apply it to the next IGEM UPRM team. In addition, they serve as understudies in case a team member absence. Currently, our team has six members who started as Interns in our team.
