About
Marcella is a fun but very frightening person. Her name is pronounced "maar" + "SHEL" + "uh." If you mess up her name, she will mess YOU up.
Marcella is from the unexciting town of Folsom, CA, known best by the Johnny Cash song “Folsom Prison Blues.” Her hobbies consist of making bad jokes and forming plans to kill her enemies. When she is not taking candy from little kids (the most exciting thing to do in Folsom), she visits her home country of Italy often.
Marcella is a descendant of the famous Italian Renaissance thinker Leonardo da Vinci. She has free climbed the Tower of Pisa three times, and makes a killer Green Lasagna. She owns a purple 1986 Lamborghini Motorcycle D90 (One of ten ever built), and loves taking joyrides in the Santa Cruz mountains.
When she isn’t working in the lab or working on fundraising, she loves to be the carpool mom and drag her teammates to hot yoga and help them all be able to do the splits one day. After receiving her B.S. in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology and Bioinformatics, she plans to go to veterinary school in honor of her late pet Koala "Stickers." (Stickers died on August 3rd, 2017) or pursue a graduate degree in synthetic biology.
Marcella joined iGEM because of her love for innovative science and desire to be a part of a team. She plans to use her smarts to help save the world and bring glory to her homeland.
I can't run fast, so I drive fast
Fun Fact Marcella grinds and extracts her own olive oil from olives she grows in her own backyard. She sometimes brings her fresh olive oil to share with the team during morning meetings.
