Summary of Human Practices

Introduction

Considering the impact of MESH within the context of our wider society is essential in determining the need for and the value of this technology. By actively collaborating with academics, industry specialists, clinicians, ethics committees, patients and the general public at each step in the development of our project, we were able to mould our product design and tailor our outreach activities around the views of our stakeholders.. We wanted to make sure that our work was responsible and good for society, and by setting-up a two-way dialogue between our stakeholders, we were also able to analyse the long-term impact of our project on such groups.

We integrated stakeholder feedback in four major aspects of our project: product design, industry relevance, safety, and ethics through expert guidance and direct interaction with clinicians and people affected by breast cancer. We also carried out public engagement and outreach activities, and created a sustainability initiative called Little LEAF to help iGEM teams be more sustainable in their activities over the summer.
