Characterization or Contribution

Characterization - Standard Tracks: We characterized the classical BBa_E0040 wtGFP measurement with a widely used school-spectrophotometer/fluorimeter. The real importance of this measurement is that we showed that schools can easily use their own equipment with a small modification to measure GFP fluorescence. The essence of this measurement was that we measured the the GFP intensity using the excitation wavelength at 504 nm, but at 500 nm which is provided by the inexpensive device. Looking at the former characterization of this part we found that triggering the green fluorescent protein at this wavelength still gives a highly valuable result. We hope that with this measurement information we can enhance the spreading of synthetic biology research in secondary schools.
