University of Groningen (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen)

Be Basic Foundation

The BE-Basic Foundation Biotechnology based Ecologically Balanced Sustainable Industrial Consortium is an international innovative partnership that develops biobased solutions contributing to a sustainable society, based in the Netherlands. The foundation stimulates research and development of bio-based solutions and protocols for chemicals, energy and materials, thereby initiating and maintaining the collaboration between academia and industry. The main focus is on innovating ideas and products in order to improve the bio-based economy.

Max Gruber Foundation

The Max Gruber foundation is established by the founder of the Biochemistry department, Max Gruber in 1978 at the University of Groningen. The foundation stimulates and supports scientific meetings, including symposia, international events and master-classes. Besides stimulating, the Max Gruber foundation is a great sponsor of scientific related activities, performed by students, professors and everyone in between.

ENTEG

ENTEG, the ENgineering and Technology institute Groningen, aims to analyse, design and explore innovative technologies. The institute stimulates and contributes to research and educational programmes to improve and strengthen the intersection between academia and industry in the field of technology and engineering.

The science-based company DSM focuses on finding solutions for world-wide problems, just as in the iGEM competition. With the help of scientific and innovative knowledge in the field of Nutrition, Health and Sustainable living, DSM aims to make the world a better place for customers, share-olders, and the society. As part of BD (Becton Dickinson), BD Kiestra aims to advance the world of health, by increasing the efficiency of processing large samples what enables faster treatment of patients.

Groningen University Fund (GUF)

The Groningen University Fund (GUF) provides opportunity for students to improve their studies as good as possible. The fund stimulates student’s self-development by enabling students to broaden their horizons. To pursue this goals, the GUF supports students by subsidizing the organisation in Groningen or the northern Netherlands of international scientific conferences, symposia or workshops by scientists of the Groningen University

Science LinX

The main purpose of Science LinX is to introduce science and technology to primary and secondary school students in order to interest them for a scientific career at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Science LinX is part of the Undergraduate School of Science and Engineering (Faculty of Science & Engineering, RUG) and coordinates programs to inform and involve pupils, lecturers, non-profit organizations and the general public in research conducted by the faculty.

Biodrucker GmHB

TThe relatively new company Biodrucker GmHB, develops bioprinters, software, highly biofunctional bioinks and bioprinted in vivo models. Because Biodrucker GmHB acknowledges the relevance of bioprinting for biomedical purposes, the company is driven to develop technologies involved in bioprinting to improve medical patient treatment. The manifestation tissue analogues resemble native organ function more closely than conventional cell cultures, has given the company it’s main aim: To provide bioprinted tissue implants to maintain, restore or substitute the function of damaged tissues.The company constructs individualized bioprinting systems and develops tailored bioinks.

Ubbo Emmius Foundation

Without funds and money no research group is able to thrive. The Ubbo Emmius Foundation helps remarkable and special research projects by seeking support from Alumni of the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Via the Ubbo Emmius Foundation a wide range of research projects in the field of health, sustainability, energy and culture is promoted and supported.

Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials (ZIAM)

The Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials focuses on the design and scientific study for materials and functionality. Physicists, chemists and biologists work closely together and involve the whole chain of knowledge; modelling, design, synthesis, characterization, physical properties, theory and device functionality. In 1999 the ZIAM was awarded the status of national research centre (NRC) which provided opportunity to the research group to develop a long-term vision and plan. At the moment, ZIAM includes 40 faculty members, 80 researchers, 230 PhD students and 30 support staff. All the team members aim to address fundamental and challenging questions in the fields of functional materials that are relevant to societal problems.

Koninklijk Instituut voor Ingenieurs (KIVI)

The Koninklijk Instituut voor Ingenieurs (KIVI) was founded in 1847 by three engineers under the protection of the Dutch crown prince. The association provides an inspiring environment for engineers by supporting the professional practice of engineers and additionaly connects academia and industry. With over 20.000 members, KIVI creates a safe and a diverse platform for engineers to innovate technology and intelligent systems by continuously triggering creativity and self-development of professionals.

GeSiM

GeSiM aims to bridge the gap from research to production. The company develops instruments for microarray printing, 3D bioprinting, chemical synthesis, microfluidics and so on. GeSiM is specializedd in liquid handling automation, microfuidics and micro contact printing. Recent developments are focused on instrumentation for 3D printing of biocompatible materials.

Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu (RIVM)

The Dutch Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu (RIVM) focuses on the common health and a safe and healthy environment. RIVM supports and executes scientific research and is dedicated to gain and collect important knowledge to sustain a healthy environment. The institute provides delicate birth screenings, fights infection diseases, and plays a central role in Dutch population screening.

NEB is a well known platform in the bioscience research, due to their discovery, development and support superior research reagents.

Jena Bioscience

Founded by scientists, Jena Bioscience develops innovative reagents for both research and industry. Due to the many departments the company has, for example chemistry crystallography and microbiology departments, ensures the scientific and industrial client they will receive high quality and targeted products for any purpose they may need it for.

De jonge onderzoekers

De jonge Onderzoekers gives work space to children who want to know more about technology and science. The afterschool programm provides opportunity for kids develop their talents and biggest interests. By stimulating creativity, children are triggered to explore different aspects of science. The activities are all set up by well educated volunteers which have also a big interest for science. Technology, chemistry, physics, biology; different parts of science are highlighted in workshops by doing for example experiments and building robots thereby gaining knowledge.

Scholierenacademie

Scholierenacademie is an institute connecting both highschool and primary school students with the university. Scholierenacademie offers a wide spectrum of activities and events schools can participate in, such as guest lectures, workshops and field trips. The main goal is to get young children already acquainted with the University of Groningen but most of all, especially science.

Discovery Truck

The University of Groningen has its own 'Discovery Truck': a fully equipped laboratory on wheels which can also be used as a lecture room. The Faculty of Mathematics & Natural Sciences uses the truck to tour around schools in the Netherlands and show the students what science is about through experiments and lectures. The Discovery Truck visits predominantly high-schools and aims to create room for young adults to explore their main interests.

GBB

Groningen Biomolecular Sciences and Biotechnology Institute (GBB) GBB is an institute for top noted research and teaching in biomolecular sciences, which includes the following subdisciplines: biochemistry, bioinformatics, biophysical chemistry, cell biology, chemical biology, enzymology, genetics, microbiology and systems biology. The focus is on curiosity-driven science, with application outlets into (industrial) biotechnology and biomedicine.
