Collaborations
Project Troubleshooting and Mentorship with UIUC Illinois
This year, we contacted Team UIUC Illinois for project troubleshooting by setting up a video conference on July 24th, 2019. We introduced our projects to each other and talked about the problems we encountered while working on our projects. Our team member George Luan offered some tips for their trouble in cloning the glyphosate degradation genes. Team UIUC later offered our team some options for gTEMP isolations. Their idea of using lysates gave us another inspiration — instead of isolating the protein directly, we could use lysates to kill the cells without damaging gTEMP, which also satisfies our goal for a cell-free system. Our teams kept in touch with each other after the video conference.
Assistance from Team UCL
We also contacted team UCL for suggestions and procedure for protein isolations. They sent us the information about the equipment they used and their protocol. Even though we could not use their protocols currently due to the lack of equipment, their assistance provides us valuable information about the processes for protein isolation which we can incorporate in our experiments when we get the equipment.
