What the team accomplished
iGEM FDR-HB has been working on creating a part that will be able to detect and remove cadmium from the fish that is caught by TASA.
Schools
We have been given a lot of support, as a team, by the two schools that our students attend, Colegio Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Colegio Hiram Bingham. They have been very helpful in providing us with space to work and in providing us with transport when needed.
Mentors
We would like to thank Dr. Nina Markham and Dr. Claudia Muñoz for guiding our team throughout the whole season. They have stuck with us through all the ups and downs of our project and have been nothing but supportive. They challenged our team and we are privileged to have them as our mentors.
Experts
Our project only moved forward because of the feedback we received from our experts Dr. Daniel Guerra, Mr. Russell Swanson, and Mr. Steve Markham. They have helped our synthetic biology, hardware, and math modeling teams with all the obstacles we faced.
TASA
TASA has been a crucial part of the focus of our project. We presented our project to Marco Figari, who is a scientist, Derek Forsyth who is the project manager, and finally, Mr. Rens, the administrator. They have met with us twice this season and after our presentation, they decided to sponsor our team by pledging us $2,000. We have used this money to buy essential equipment we need to conduct experiments in order to have the first prototype of our bioassay by the end of this year.
Association of American Schools in South America
This year we applied for a Global Citizen Award to the AASSA and we received an award from TIECARE International and AASSA consisting of $1,000. This money has gone towards purchasing supplies to develop our lab on-site at FDR.
Human Practices Support
Ms. Zoe Shapiro is the supervising teacher of one of our Human Practices projects, a science after school program for middle school students.
Wiki Support
Pau Faraldos and Jose Jimenez are the ones who were in charge of the wiki page.
Presentation Help
Dr. Nina Markham, Dr. Claudia Muñoz, Mr. Russel Swanson, and Mr. Gilles Buck gave our team very useful feedback when presenting and supported us.
Difficult technique Support
Mr. Stephen Markham is the mentor of mathematical modeling.
We would like to thank everyone who made this project possible, who gave us support throughout our journey and made our experience in iGEM incredibly fun!
