Clara Cho

Hi! I'm Clara, a junior at ASIJ. I'm Korean and I've lived in Japan for the past 7 years. I joined iGem because I had great interest in all sciences and because it enabled me to broaden my knowledge on how science taught at school was applied in real world situations. This experience has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of bioengineering and research and whether it was something I would want to pursue in the future. During my free time, I enjoy window shopping, listening to old songs, and playing the clarinet.

Katie Conrad

Hi, I'm Katie. I am half Japanese and half American, and I have lived in Tokyo for all my life. I am very interested in science, particularly in molecular biology and in botany. I love music, and have been in the school band for six years now (I play the trumpet). I joined iGEM because I wanted to learn more in depth the impact of bioengineering in society, and new projects and innovations that are being made at the moment.

Lilia Dow-Yuzawa

Hi! My name is Lilia and I am an 11th grader at ASIJ. I am Japanese-American and was born and raised in Japan. In my free time, I love playing and listening to music, eating food, and playing volleyball and basketball. I joined iGEM because I really enjoy science and believed that it would provide me with amazing opportunities and experiences.

Stephanie Eristoff

Hello! My name is Stephanie, and I am currently a senior at ASIJ. I am half-American half-Korean but have lived in Singapore and Japan all my life. I like running, taste-testing conbini black coffees, and 1 PM naps. iGEM is important to me because it allows me to learn through applied interdisciplinary STEM. I am excited to work on our team's mathematical modeling, human practices, and all the gaps in between!

Genta Firth

Hello, my name is Genta and I’m a Senior at ASIJ. This is my second year in iGEM and am so happy I was able to be part of such an amazing team for two years in a row. I love learning through practical experience and love the fact that we get to do high level research in high school, which I plan to do in college. Other than researching, I spend my free time playing the bass and boxing.

Vaishnavi Gorantla

Hello! I'm Vaishnavi and I'm a senior at ASIJ. I'm Indian, but I was born and raised in Tokyo. I joined iGEM as I was interested in learning about mathematical modeling and I've helping out with the mathematical modeling section. I enjoy chatting with my friends in my free time and catching up on sleep.

Lauren Hartz

Hi! I'm Lauren, a junior here at ASIJ. I'm half Taiwanese-Chinese, half American, and though I've lived in Tokyo for over 10 years, I am originally from New Jersey. It's my second year on the team, and I am looking forward to seeing all the amazing projects that will come out this year! I love science, especially pharmacology and the mechanisms of medicine.

Jerome Hsing

Hello, I'm Jerome. I'm a senior at ASIJ and this is my first year in iGEM. My mom's Taiwanese, my dad's Chinese (trust me, there's a difference), and I've lived in Tokyo my whole life. I love playing basketball, playing the sax and piano, and chilling with friends. I worked on the wiki and learned HTML and CSS as I went. I hope that my time in iGEM can open up new horizons for me in the future!

Jun Ikeda

Hello, my name is Jun and I'm a senior at ASIJ. I'm half Taiwanese and Japanese, but have lived in Texas for about half my life. I enjoy playing tennis, playing my clarinet, and watching movies in my free time. I joined iGem because I wanted to get involved in research and further my STEM experience outside the classroom.

Misaki Inoue

Hello! I'm a senior at ASIJ and this is my second year in iGEM. I'm excited to be back in the community because I get to work with amazing peers and learn things on your own through trial-and-error, including the best way to relax your brain after endless hours of research. So my favorite ways to spend free time now (sadly) is taking a fat nap and eating good food, especially Italian and Japanese.

Matthew Kaung

Hi! I'm Matthew, a sophomore at ASIJ. I'm Singaporean, and I've lived in Singapore for 7 years and Tokyo for 8 years. In my free time, I enjoy playing the piano, reading, and playing sports. I joined iGEM because I wanted to expand my knowledge in biology and application of biology in society. I'm excited to work on iGEM and to pursue my interests.

Kenzo Khoo

Hi! I am Kenzo, a senior at ASIJ. I was born in Tokyo and moved to San Diego when I was ten years old, and I moved back to Tokyo in the middle of sophomore year. My favorite thing to bake are macarons, and my favorite type of tea is green tea prepared at 70°C for 90 seconds. I have always been interested in the chemistry behind food, especially fermentation. Currently, I am trying to ferment potato chips. I joined iGem because I thought it was a good opportunity to obtain hands on experience on labs and collaborate with passionate teammates.

Young Kim

Hello! I'm Young, a senior at ASIJ. As my last name not so subtly hints, I am Korean, but I can confidently call Tokyo my second home. Outside of an academic context, baking is my favorite form of relaxation. This will be my second year as an iGEM-er. It is an absolute privilege to be a part of such a talented team full of students with high ambitions in the STEM field. See for yourself, and explore our project!

Kanna Matsumoto

Hi! I'm Kanna and I'm a senior at ASIJ. Before I came here in my sophomore year I lived in Bangkok for ~4 years (yet I still can't eat corianders). I joined iGEM because I was interested in biological engineering as I want to go on to study medicine. Besides my interest in science, I also like to go explore cafes and restaurants in Tokyo.

Hiroki Mii

Hi, my name is Hiroki Mii and I am a senior at ASIJ. I am a Japanese-American who grew up in Westchester, New York for 13 years before moving to Tokyo in my sophomore year. I joined iGEM because I believed it was a great opportunity for me to do work with bioengineering. In my free time, I enjoy playing basketball, playing the bass, and just hanging out with my friends. I plan on pursuing a career in electrical engineering.

Rika Mizoguchi

Hi, my name is Rika and I'm a senior at ASIJ. I'm Japanese, but I was born and have lived in America for most of my life. While I'm interested in biochemistry and the molecular science involved in IGEM, my biggest science obsession is paleontology. When I have free time (basically, when I make time by willingly sacrificing my sleep) I enjoy reading fantasy novels, eating fruit gummies, and drawing pictures of dinosaurs and happy (!) salamanders on my computer. I joined IGEM for the opportunity to do scientific research, and engage with fellow students interested in science.

Kai Nakazawa

Hi, I'm Kai and a junior at ASIJ. I'm fully Japanese, but I've only moved back to Japan five years ago after spending most of my life in Shanghai and Hong Kong.
