ShanghaiFLS_China: Collaborations

The team was mentored by NIU Xiaoqi, team member and captain of BU-AMU. Niu offered the team with much insight into experiments, modeling, and meet-ups. He attended our weekly meetings, and with his help, we were able to more effectively carry out trials, construct two models (modeling and demonstrate), and realize the human practices.

We attended two meetups, held by After iGEM and Beijing_iBowu, respectively.

On March 14th, Brain, Nicole, Ken, and Ethan attended an After iGEM meetup in NYU Shanghai. It is the first meet up in the Eastern China by After iGEM. During the meetup, we communicated with several teams and established a groupchat on WeChat for the exchange information and resources. We got a full apprehension of Giant Jamboree after attending it.

We attended a second meetup in Beijing on July 8th. The meetup was held by Beijing_iBowu. By then, we had an idea of how our whole project would be like. Therefore, we gave a presentation on our project. We also engaged in fruitful communications with other teams. From that meeup, we were able to enhance our experiment design through communicating with other teams. We also got to know Shanghai_YGQ, a team that collaborated with us intensively during the next several months.

In addition, we closely communicated with Shanghai_YGQ during the whole project. We talked to them about project selection, lab protocols, particular Human Practices, and so on. We both gained a lot of insight during those dialogues.

Finally, we greatly benefitted from tutorials on constructing an iGEM wiki made by US_AFRL_CarrollHS and other teams. We successfully solved problems such as disabling the iGEM logo on the page, changing the width of the website, and creating templates on the iGEM server.
