From the very early stages, the focus of our project was steered by the practical concerns of the communities around us. As part of this, we endeavored to incorporate expert opinions wherever possible to have immediate feedback on the state and progress of our work. Here, you will find all of the instances where our human practices approaches not only improved, but shaped our project in a significant way.

Human Practices

At iGEM we believe societal considerations should be upfront and integrated throughout the design and execution of synthetic biology projects. “Human Practices” refers to iGEM teams’ efforts to actively consider how the world affects their work and the work affects the world. Through your Human Practices activities, your team should demonstrate how you have thought carefully and creatively about whether your project is responsible and good for the world. We invite you to explore issues relating (but not limited) to the ethics, safety, security, and sustainability of your project, and to show how this exploration feeds back into your project purpose, design and execution.

Silver Medal Criteria

Team Collaborations

We collaborated with a variety of international teams all around the world. Here we want to present different collaborations ranging from common scientific projects to field investigations and international education ventures.

Expert Interviews

Throughout our project we talked to many experts from different fields. Here we want to give you an impression of our interviews.

Safety & Responsibility

As a thoughtful team we attached great importance to safety aspects of our project. Here you will find out more about our safety policy.

Gold Medal Criteria

Software

Since software and modeling are important parts of our project we talked to an expert in dry lab approaches. This helped us learn more about software and significantly improve our system.

Integrated Human Practices

Scientific research lives from a steady exchange of ideas and expertise. Our project went a little bit further because scientific exchange of ideas did not only improve our project but shaped it in a very fundamental way.

Science Communication

Reaching out to people to talk about science is very important, but not always easy. This is why we contacted different experts in science communication, who provided us with invaluable advice on how to better interact with the general public.
