Safety
For our project, we worked only with Risk group 1 organisms (no or low risk), namely the jumbophage 201 phi2-1 and its host Pseudomonas chlororaphis.
We confirmed this with our institutes safety officer, Silvio Hemmi, in addition to discussing general lab safety and whether or not we had to take any special precaution for working with phages. The documentation of this interaction can be found on our Human Practices page here .
We always followed standard safety procedures during our project, meaning gloves, googles and a labcoat were the standard garb we wore in the lab and we never had any incidents during our time in the lab, except maybe for the occasional spilling of a buffer or some media.
