Mentors/Other:

Dr. Nancy Kelley-Loughnane for getting us into the labs and the management for our team.

Dr. Wendy Goodson for allowing us to work in her research lab, allowing us to attend lab meetings where we further expanded our knowledge of synthetic biology.

Dr. Rajesh Naik for providing us with advice and guidance after listening to the presentation, and for signing off on our iGEM team and this year’s project.

Dr. Chia Hung for acting as the main mentor of the RX lab. There are no words for the amount of appreciation of Dr. Hung available due to all of the time and hard work he puts into our iGEM team. Dr. Hung provided our team with crucial guidance through every issue we have faced in our project.

Dr. Vanessa Varaljay for guidance in the RX Lab, the lessons she taught us over bioinformatics, and her guidance in our presentation.

Dr. Drew Wagner for answering all of our questions in lab, instructing us through protocols, and all of his criticism and advice of our project.

Dr. Mike Goodson for acting as one of the main mentors of the RH lab. His constant help when answering our questions, guidance in labs, and the numerous hours of time he dedicated to our team cannot be repaid with thanks alone.

Dr. Amy Breedon for acting as one of the main mentors of the RH lab. Her constant guidance throughout our project, in lab and outside of lab was greatly appreciated. We would not have been as successful with our project without her brilliance and creativity when coming up with new tests to run.

The Water Treatment Specialist for speaking with the team about the current testing methods for heavy metals and what the EPA is looking for when sending results.

The AFRL Painting Specialist for speaking with the team about the ins and outs of painting with chromium.

The Coating Specialist for speaking with the team about the policy around chromium based primers and paints.

Lloyd Nadeau for his constant advice within lab and his funny wit which keeps the lab work interesting.

William (BJ) Burke for providing us with safety training and assisting us when we have trouble within lab.

Michael Franz for his advice concerning our social media outreach.

Ted Suchecki for programming and setting up the computers that we used.

Dallas McDonald for giving us advice and tips in lab and being an all-around joy to work with.

Andrea Poole for her constant advice, help, and opinions which further advanced our project and allowed us to get to the point where we are at. We greatly appreciate all of her help throughout the summer.

Christina Davis for the necessary management she gave to our team and the encouragement which drove us towards completing our goals.

Nathan Ferguson for help with the upkeep of the lab and being open to questions and knowledgeable with answers.

Dr. Martha Carter for acting as the leader of our team. As a mentor, Dr. Carter all around assists in every aspect of the project while moving us towards accomplishing our goals. Dr. Carter is the emotional support for our entire team and we appreciate every second that she spends with us and on the project.

Mr. Matt Sableski, the principal of Carroll High School, for allowing us to pursue the academic excellence of iGEM and all of the support of the team that he provided.

Kevin Agnew for helping with grade school presentations and project research.

Grant Arnold for processing lab results, making standard curves, analyzing data, and helping with grade school presentations.

Annie Bete for all her work on the wiki, modeling, collaborations, poster, presentation, and graphic design and branding.

Evan Beard for researching project topics, assisting with our meetup, and grade school presentations.

Yazmin Camacho for her assistance in the lab on cell free testing and site-directed mutagenesis protocols on our py71 sfGFP and py71 bFMO constructs and implementing RBS 34 in our ChrP bFMO and ChrP GFPa1 constructs, writing wiki content, and documenting on the parts registry.

Jonah Carter for his work constructing the chromium detection system, creating the presentation, and setting up human practice meetings.

Sophia Carter for her assistance with research, organizing the meetup, and checking the description and design of the wiki.

Max Herrmann for his work doing wet lab research before going to cell free and for leading our human practices.

Hayley Jesse for her work on cell-free testing, planning and directing the meetup, writing wiki content, and coordinating collaborations.

Nick Miller for his assistance with human practices and research on heavy metals.

Cameron Neidhard for his assistance in project research as well as writing the drafts of the project description and inspiration.

Travis O’Leary for his lab work focusing on pET11a-Chrb and py71 bFMO, writing lab notes, helping with the presentation, and safety forms.

Laura Polanka for helping organize the meetup, writing wiki content, lab work on cell free testing, posting social media content, writing up the wiki profiles, and uploading wiki content.

Madeleine Sanders for her work in the lab, writing lab notes, grade school presentations, participating in Skype calls, and helped with meetup preparations.

Funding:

We would especially like to thank the Air Force Research Laboratory for allowing us access and time within their advanced labs. We met many amazing people within the labs who all helped us with our project along the way. It was an amazing experience and we would not trade it for the world.
