Collaboration

USTC-Software

Jiang Pengcen, a member of our team, helped them with some basic information and instructions on Cobra, a toolbox that can do FBA calculations.

We helped test their software and gave them feedbacks. Together with USTC-Software, we participated training in experiments in our school. It's a good chance for them to get to know some biology, and for us to be aquainted with each other.

Our electron transfer module overexpressed four genes, so we added a QS regulator to help balance the expression. But the widely used Lux promoters have a high leakage that they are not quite suitable for elaborate regulation. Thus, we had to improve the Plux promoter. Communication with NTHU-Taiwan brought basic promoter improvement methods to our knowledge. They described those methods at lengt and gave us suggestions on how to carry out them. That threw light on our design.

UESTC-China

This year, we discussed our project with Team UESTC during CCiC. They focus on the degradation of antibiotics in wastewater, sharing similar goals with us. We shared with them the results of our Human Practices. The water treatment plant which we visited used microorganisms to degrade the chemicals, and ozone to oxidize the azo dye molecules. We are curious to know the treating methods in other plants. Team UESTC told us that activated sludge was utilized in their local water treatment plant, and MP-MBR membrane was used to filter out the pollutants and most bacteria. Besides, we also discussed about project selection and teamwork. We plan to make further discussions on Giant Jamboree.

SYSU-Medicine

We contacted with the SYSU-Medicine team and exchange our ideas on the recruitment of team members and team management. We have also set up an appointment to meet up during the Giant Jamboree for further communication.
