Team Members
Our team consists of 3 student leaders and 4 student members as well as 2 PIs and an instructor. All team members are juniors studying at Ruamrudee International School.
Nithan (Tan) Tantitanawat
Hello... My name is Tan, and I’m one of the leaders of the team RIS_BKK. I’m currently a junior at Ruamrudee International School in Bangkok, Thailand. I’m interested in many scientific fields, including chemistry, biology, and physics. In my free time, I like to play video games or listen to music. Ironically, when I was a kid, I didn’t like science at all. But as I grew up, I started to ask questions that my parents could no longer answer. Since then, I started to do a little research on my own to find answers which surprisingly led me to science. I’m very happy to join this competition because here I can satisfy my curiosity and use a little creativity, while learning from others to find optimum solutions to new problems. Apart from applying knowledge from school, I also learn about management and working as a team. As a student leader, I am responsible for overall project design, wet lab design, team management and making sure that everything runs without a hitch. |
Matchamon (Ton Nam) Pianapitham
Hey! I’m Ton Nam, a junior who is studying at Ruamrudee International School, Bangkok, Thailand. iGEM was an amazing experience that not only enabled me to experience a new field, but also improve on what I'm capable of. I’m interested in Biology, Chemistry, and Psychology. And in participating in iGEM, I have learned that there are so many more things to learn in these fields, not only the science but also the creativity, responsibility, and hard work that goes into these projects. As part of RIS_BKK, I have worked in the laboratory and is responsible for organizing many aspects of the team like coordinating different groups in the team and organizing the wiki as well as writing out the project inspiration and description. . |
Jitboon (Peme) Puttharugsa
Hey! I’m Peme, one of the leaders of the RIS_BKK iGEM team. I’m currently a junior at Ruamrudee International School in Thailand. Since I was a kid, I’ve always had an interest in science, particularly in biology. Participating in the iGEM competition provided me with a great opportunity to further develop my ability to conduct experiments as well as my scientific knowledge in general. I took part in working in the laboratory at Naresuan University. In addition, I am also responsible for things such as writing out the safety rules for the wiki page as well as analyzing the lab results. |
Phoomphisit (Phoom) Dejchaiyasak
Hey! My name is Phoom, a current junior at Ruamrudee International School and a member of the RIS_BKK iGEM team. The two fields of study that I am interested in are Chemistry and Biology and by participating in this competition, I was able to gain a lot of new insights and strengthen my knowledge in these areas. With all the work we have put in together as a team, it was a great challenge for a high school team like ours. The experience that I have gained from participating in this competition is very valuable and not only in terms of the project but also strengthen the bonds and friendship within our team. The part that I took responsibility in was in terms of writing a grant letter to be sent to companies as well as the team’s social media accounts to post updates on our project. |
Natakrit (Eke) Ratanachai
My name is Eke. Seventeen years ago, my parents performed biology’s most incredible phenomenon–the creation of life. Sixteen years later, here I am, a junior at Ruamrudee International School and part of the RIS_BKK iGEM team. Like others in my team, my main areas of study are Chemistry and Biology. One of the things about the competition that I found most impactful to me was being able to take what was learned in class and apply it in a meaningful way to real-world issues. It put some new perspective on the education that I’m receiving, and it made me realize how important that content really is. I can confidently say that the iGEM experience has shaped me into a better person, whether it be in areas of academic knowledge or social skills such as working as a team. The contributions I made to the team are in the form of laboratory work and revision of the team’s written works. |
Nattakit (Ping Ping) Tankongchamruskul
Greetings, my name is Ping Ping. I am a Junior at Ruamrudee International School and a member of the RIS_BKK iGEM team. I never really had an academic “field of interest”. However, joining the iGEM competition gave me the opportunity to explore the field of biological engineering. Entering with minimal scientific background, I would say I had a lot more to learn than my fellow teammates. Throughout this competition, I was able to gain much resourceful scientific knowledge about synthetic biology through first-hand experiences in the laboratory. Aside from the laboratory work, I was mainly responsible for the web development of the wiki. |
Anna (Mook) Watunyuta
Hello! I’m Mook. I’m currently studying in Junior year at Ruamrudee International School, Bangkok, Thailand. I’m personally interested in Art and Biology. These two fields are alike. There’s so much to learn and understand and they are quite dynamic. Being a part of the iGEM competition is a great opportunity to enhance my scientific skills and knowledge, along with the ability to work as a team. It is very challenging for me since we are one of the youngest competitors and the first Thai team to compete in this competition. As a member of the team, I took part in working in the laboratory and responsible for the designs of the logo, outfits, banner, and the wiki. |
Consultants
Mrs. Nicole Sabet
I am honored to serve as one of the advisors for Ruamrudee International School’s iGEM team. I teach both Biology and Chemistry (grades 10-12) and have had the pleasure of working with some of our team members in general level and IB classes. As CAS Coordinator for our IB Diploma program, this opportunity is an exciting fit for both myself and our team members to exhibit creativity through an academic pursuit. I look forward to hearing the team’s presentation in Boston, discussing areas of success and growth and continuing the conversation back at RIS to support further iGEM teams or other STEM initiatives. |
Mr. Sean Fisk
It has been a pleasure serving as the main PI for this group of talented and driven Ruamrudee students. I have been teaching AP and IB Chemistry for several years around the globe, as well as coaching students in science fairs such as the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair and the Google Science Fair. My background as both a science teacher and a former research biologist means I have a unique perspective and skill set to share with my students. I wasn’t sure what to expect when the team leaders approached me, but it sounded right up my alley so I signed on to do whatever I could to help them be successful. I am very proud of what these 7 students have been able to accomplish through their own hard work, and I look forward to possibly seeing Ruamrudee International School becoming a regular competitor in this event. |
