Natural ink in the society

Introduction

One of our objectives is to stablish two-way dialogue with new communities and engaging new groups in discussions about synthetic biology and public values. Our main target is our housting town, Aranjuez. During our iGEM journey, STAIN has been involved in many activities of our town.

The media

The local radio created a space for our project .Throughout the months of July and September, every week one of the members of the team has been interviewed in order to make our project known. We also wanted to get inhabitants know about SynBio and its impact in the society.

Listen to the podcasts of our interviews

We also appeared a local newspaper and in the national radio broadchating

Relationships with entrepreneurs

Being known by the people is not the only thing to take into account. Looking for some economical help is also important, as materials and travelling has to be paid. Aranjuez is 5.505 kilometers far from Boston!

Some meetings with important entrepreneurs were arranged. Here is were AHERO, an association of hoteliers, appears. Since the first moment they supported us and proposed many ideas to push forward our economic situation.

'El Motín', Aranjuez festivities:

On the first week of September, Aranjuez celebrates its festivities and we made our apparition on them. AHERO presidents came up with the idea of creating special ‘tapas’ (small dishes eaten before meals as a snack which are very typical in Spain) for us. It was a total success, almost a thousand ‘tapas’ were sold!

Other of our activities these days was an informative stand. We stayed during a morning on a principal square explaining briefly our project and what synthetic biology is. The purpose of this was not only to promote our project, but also to make people closer to the science. We think we could set an example to the young people who is interested in the field and, this way, encourage them not to give up and follow their dreams.

The smallest ones unleashed their creativity and drew our logo. See their art works!
