Team Members

Arvid Larsson

Master in Machine Intelligence
https://www.linkedin.com/in/arvid-larsson/

He is iGEM Lunds only team leader that is tolerant to gluten. Over the year he has been a part of the development and the implementation of the computer models. He is also responsible for the web development, as well as emotional support for the lab focus group when times are tough. Arvid has a background in applied physics and electrical engineering, and is currently doing his master's degree in Machine Intelligence at LTH.

Hampus Ekström

Master in Nanotechnology
linkedin.com/in/hampus-ekström

Hampus is iGEM Lund’s only team leader that is intolerant to gluten. He is, together with his brother Viktor, responsible for finances, managing the team’s budget, applying for sponsorships, and handling purchases. On a rare occasion, you might also spot him in the lab. Hampus is also a co-host of The iGEM Lund Show, a podcast where we’ve reached out to and interviewed teams across the globe. Hampus is currently doing his master’s degree in nanobiomedicine at the program Engineering Nanoscience at LTH.

Lan Hoa Diep

Bachelor in Mathematics

She studies mathematics in the faculty of science at Lund University her favorite field is differential equations. Lan has been a core part of the computer model development and implementation. Lan has spent long nights in the lab, helped the lab group, and ate their popcorn.. and died on multiple occasions from frustration but don’t worry she is like a cat, she has nine lives!

Viktor Ekström

Bachelor in Nanotechnology
linkedin.com/in/viktor-ekström

Viktor is currently studying his third year at the program Engineering Nanoscience at LTH. He is, alongside his brother Hampus, responsible for the team's finances, managing the budget, handling the accounting, applying for sponsorships, and making sure that the team has everything it needs. Viktor is also a co-host of the podcast called The iGEM Lund Show.

Amr Ghazal

Bachelor in Physics

Amr isn’t your typical International student. He’s seemingly modest, but don’t let the kind face fool you. Amr is a science and party enthusiast, not being constrained by the norms of any society. He’s capable of being and saying whatever he likes. He is also a great writer and speaker! If you want to be unrestricted, creative and exciting, be like Amr.

Erik Hartman

Bachelor in Medical Engineering and Bachelor in Biomedicine
linkedin.com/in/erik-hartman/

He is a heavy lifter both literally and figuratively. Erik has led and founded the ambitious Human Practices project, SynthEthics, which aims to layout an ethical ground for which future progress in synthetic biology can be built upon. He has also been a part-time web developer. Erik has many years of experience in practical science, despite being the youngest team member. He’s able to consistently show up and get results regardless of the conditions.

Eneas Hållsten

Bachelor in Nanotechnology

Eneas is currently doing his bachelor's degree in Nanotechnology at LTH. He is responsible for the team’s website and graphical design. But his actual USP is to maintain the peace during the hard lab hours. His humor and outgoing personality improve the inner social relationship of the team. Everyone’s favorite guy and the Chandler of the team. Eneas is an essential part of iGEM Lund 2019.

Manjyot Kaur

Master in Biotechnology
linkedin.com/in/manjyot-kaur/

She is one of the four members of the wet lab. In 2020 she will complete her master’s in biotechnology at LTH. Her rational thinking and her patience played an important role in the successful completion of the project. A loyal friend and a great colleague. The only thing Manjyot loves more than her friends and family are dogs and Friends (the show, not actual friends).

Mateusz Piotr Szewczyk

Master in Biotechnology
linkedin.com/in/mateusz-piotr-szewczyk

The only male part of the wet lab team. Mateusz was the main designer of the gene constructs. It was a great burden to carry but he did it effortlessly. He’s main scope this summer was to tease the girls in the lab and complain about coming to the lab early in the morning. The great mind of the lab has a deep background in biotechnology and he will complete his master’s in the same field at LTH in 2020.

Julia Thomasson

Master in Biotechnology

Julia is a circus artist by day and a lab hero by night. Literally. She has a special fondness for cellular biology, and knows how to practice it. She is a core member of the wetlab focus group, where she’s been she involved in the design and execution of experiments. What would the lab group be without her? She is, as of 2019, doing a master’s in biotechnology at LTH.

Savvina Leontakianakou

Master in Biotechnology

Savvina intimidates most members of the team with her Basilisk sight, no wonder since she is a proud Slytherin and that means something. She can complain about literally anything but she does it for the greater good, to make sure that the team is on the right track. She can cook and bake quite well, so she makes sure that no one is hungry in our team! Also, she has no abs and cannot lie. She studied food technology and worked in quality control but decided recently to change her area of expertise to biotechnology. Savvina was responsible for the safety in the lab. She sacrificed a lot of her free time to come on weekends and inoculate the cultures, run the SDS-page, etc. So we appreciate it a lot!

Supervisors

Nélida Leiva Eriksson

Nélida has been there for us since day one, providing us with guidance and support in all forms. Her willingness to help us whenever needed, giving valuable inputs and thoughts, has allowed us to stay motivated and continuously move forward with our project. Her current research focuses on the understanding of the activity of heme-proteins and their subsequent biotechnological application in medicine, food science, and agriculture.

Johan Svensson Bonde

Johan has been of great help, giving us a thorough walk-through of the equipment, as well as crucial safety instructions. He has also provided us with guidance and support and overall been an essential part of the team. Right now, Johan is working on developing and using engineered recombinant proteins as biomaterials, and to control biomineralization.
