I participated in iGEM as I thought this would be a good chance to explore more areas of biology, more than what I’ve studied before. Through this event I was able to find out what areas exist, and the basics to the various kinds of cures fir different diseases. Overall iGEM was a great experience.

Through this valuable experience, some of my main takeaways were being able to pursue a deeper understanding about Parkinson’s disease and the employment of synthetic biology and other various methods that can play a role to cure this disease. Learning about the Parkinson’s disease, I realized that these patients face numerous obstacles that would prevent them to blend in with the rest of society, and even struggle with accomplishing the most basic actions that need to be pursued in our daily lives. I would like to contribute with my knowledge of this field to create a better world for everyone.

I first came across synthetic biology through the iGEM. The emergent properties of new combinations of molecules operating in different places make synthetic biology attractive. However, sometimes these unpredictable properties ruin our plan. This is the reason why synthetic biology is difficult. This challenge encourages me and this is why I participated in iGEM.

As a student growing up, I was always curious about how things work. By noticing what was going on around me, I hoped to have some solution to fix a problem. That was how I first started a research project in hopes to solve fine dust problems by developing an innovative material that can help filter out dust particles on standard masks and window screens. By joining iGEM, I was able to work with other passionate people who shared a similar interest to help solve various problems in creative ways.

I have been always wanted to take part in iGEM since I entered high school, and I'm happy to finally participate. I learned the basics of my research by leading student studies on the specific control of mechanical receptors using ultrasound and modeling of unusual DNA structures that appear under physiological conditions. Last year I participated in the Bio Olympiad and was selected for the final 30. I hope our research will help a little in the development of brain genetics.

I wanted to explore further about biology after taking AP Biology class. Synthetic biology seemed really interesting to me because I am also interested in the engineering field. iGem was a perfect place to discover what bioengineering is and actually apply it in real life. I would like to graft computer science onto biomedical science in the future.

My name is Suoh Jung. I participated this project to meet various scientists at work and how the synthetic biology project works. Igem was my excellent place to discuss with students from different kinds of schools. Although, having experiment for long time and hours a day was painstaking, but we made a result worth it. I love hip hop music if you want to have a battle wath me come on, show me what you got!

I was a normal student't who was just a bit interested in biology. However, IGEM was a big opportunity for me to really get into synthetic biology. I met journalist, and contacted foreign post graduate student go rsome help about parts. IGEm was a big challenge for me, because I had to write down and speak in form of English. Though, I look like alien to Korean and have both America, Korea citizenship, I am only specialized in Korean HaHa. I love playing baseball and my favorite team is boston red socks. I hope i can see the game during IGEM week!

First of all, the field of synthetic biology was unfamiliar but interesting to me. I wanted to make a new creature for a long time ago, but I felt so vague. It was a very meaningful time to start my old wish by synthesizing new DNA parts. Based on experience gained through iGEM, I want to find a way to apply synthetic biology to artificial organs, a field I originally wanted to do.

I am Gyeonggibuk science high school student who is majored in biochemistry. I've done R&E about fluorescence molecule that detects iron ion, and began to get an interest in biology while having a research in applying it in human's body. During this project, I interviewed a medical journalist of KBS and CEO of AIM MED for our human practice. I made chemical modeling of our fusion protein by building derivate equations and chemical kinetics. We were able to predict cAMP and activate G-protein concentration as well as affect to parkinson disease our fusion protein gives.

I like programming. I attend iGEM to applying what I learn in computer science and combine it with other fields. It's the first time for me to study biology hard. Sharing different prospective in each field was fun. During sequence aligning and modeling our project, I felt interested in Computational Biology. Designing Wiki is an awesome experience. I knew that programming met design was a very fun thing. Met new people and exploring new information attracted me.
