ATTRIBUTIONS

The UAlberta 2019 iGEM team consists of scientists, engineers, and arts undergraduate students. All of the work and data presented on this wiki has been completed by our team unless stated otherwise. Below are acknowledgments of the attributions of those outside of our team. We would like to thank all of the people and organizations who supported us; we owe our achievements and success to them, as without their support this project would not have been possible. This includes our supervisors, stakeholders, external researchers, and sponsors. Furthermore, we would like to thank our family and friends for their support throughout this project. All of these individuals’ support has been integral to our project’s success.

Campbell Lab:

Dr. Robert Campbell was our primary Principal Investigator (PI). He provided abundant advice and wisdom on different aspects of the project.

Yi Shen from Campbell Lab for providing lab help and advice in adding the histidine tag to amajLime. Also for the guidance in determining the expression of the chromoprotein and equipment to view it.

Sauvageau Lab:

Dr. Dominic Sauvageau was or secondary Principal Investigator (PI). He provided lab space and resources, and extensive advice, knowledge, and wisdom regarding various facets of our project.

Beatriz Pacheco is one of our advisors who trained team members in lab procedures, supervised students during experiments, helped design constructs, helped with modelling, helped design lab experiments, performed and troubleshoot experiments, performed statistical analyses, and wrote content for both the Wiki and Parts Registry. Her help was invaluable as our project could not have been completed without her!

Other Supervisors:

Revathi Reddy is another one of our advisors who trained team members in lab procedures, supervised students during experiments, helped design constructs, helped with modelling, helped design lab experiments, performed and troubleshoot experiments, performed statistical analyses, and fundraised.

Courtney MacInnis advised procedures for bee handling and testing, and also answered all bee related questions, and provided bees, specifically sugar fed. Her contribution and desire to help is inspiring and will always be appreciated.

The University of Alberta:

The University of Alberta provided a number of resources that were instrumental for our team. The specific staff of the U of A that we would like to thank are below!

Chris Fetterly is the director of the Students’ Innovation Center, essentially the UAlberta iGEM team’s home, allowing our team to use the space whenever we needed to and gave entrepreneurial inspiration to our team members and helped us with funding.

Dr. Larry Unsworth (Chemical and Materials Engineering) generously donated us the NEB Ph.D.12 library, making our spore ligand experiments possible.

Dr. Ratmir Derda's Lab for providing the SVEK phage to do control experiment of biopanning

Dr. Lisa Stein and her PhD student Shibashis Das for supplying us with chemically competent DH5alpha cells, giving us a chemical transformation protocol and allowing us to use their lab space to do this procedure.

Dr. Warren Wakarchuk and his technician, Nicole Thompson, and PhD student, Hirak Saxena, for providing guidance, helping us troubleshoot, and allowing us to use their lab space for various procedures.

Jay Newby Assistant Professor for providing guidance and advise for brainstorming about mathematical models for the Beetector.

The judges from geekStarter's aGEM 2019 who provided insight towards improving our project: Ishan Goyal, Janei Brennan, Kenza Samlali, Patrick Wu, and Stefan Tekel.

Hussain Syed for providing cell strainers to do do filteration of spores from bee midgut.

James MacLagan Lab technician for providing troubleshooting advise and plasmid for performing double digests.

Student Supervisors: This year we were lucky to have multiple returning students who served in advisory positions, but were unable to be active team members. We are thankful for their support and expertise.

David Herczeg helped with the construction of the wiki and html coding.

Reagan Larson helped with recruitment and administration.

Gerard Dineros helped with recruitment and administration.

Special Student Mentions: These are students who helped with our project by completing small projects! We thank them for all their contributions.

Megan Malek wrote two blog posts for us!

Pia Co did processed the data of our survey, and helped edit the wiki

External Attributions

Beekeeping organizations: It was important to the 2019 UAlberta iGEM team to know the community that we were helping with our project. Part of this was getting to know the beekeeping associations. They helped us by offering advice, experience, and contacts.

Alberta Beekeepers Association

Beekeepers: Each and every one of the beekeepers we met gave incomparable input, provided invaluable insight, and helped to propel our project forward. Our lab work and project design as well as many other aspects of the project would not have been possible without their contributions. We would like to thank each and every one of the beekeepers who had extensive emails as well as phone calls with us.

  • Past iGEM work: In the spirit of the iGEM competition we built on the work of past iGEM teams when constructing our own project. We would like to acknowledge the work of past iGEM teams, and are truly grateful that we can be a part of a community where collaboration and building off of each other’s work is not only easy but encouraged. We would like Paris Bettencourt for inspiring our Demographics and Inclusivity Survey.

Paris Bettencourt 2013 Gender Study We would like to thank Uppsala 2013 as we used thier part BBa_K1033914
