Description
The range of our part numbers is BBa_K2921150 to BBa_K2921650. Our parts collection includes both constructs to detect pesticides as well as constructs to detect heavy metals. We built constructs that would constitutively express LC Cutinase (BBa_K2921150) and opdA (BBa_K2921260) which bind to pesticides. We added the chromoprotein amilCP to these proteins for the detection aspect of our project. For heavy metal detection, we built constructs to express bacterioferritin (BBa_K2921300), metal-binding protein (BBa_K2921400), metallothionein (BBa_K2921500) and oprF (BBa_K2921600). To these metal-binding proteins, we added the chromoprotein mRFP for visual or UV detection. We also added a polyhistidine tag to our constructs for protein purification in downstream applications. Together, these parts allowed us to build a toolkit to detect pesticides and heavy metals on food products through color.
