Metal-hunters— Brief description

Attributions

Thanks to our entire team's hard work and dedication that we are able to accomplish the goals. During the summer, we divided the entire workload into two components: dry and wet works. With the former section dealing with social approach while the latter dealing with laboratory approach, we combined the efforts into a very effective device that could detect heavy metal pollution conveniently.

Team member contribution:

Wet work(Martin Cheng, Candy Zhou, Ava Zhang, Wensan Yin, Ruize Gao):

- Conducted field trip and collected soil sample

- Conducted molecular cloning

- Measured Fluorescence for different regulatory genes under different metal concentrations

- Used experimental data to establish model that properly determines the functioning of our device and method

- Prepared for the Experiment, Design, Demonstration, and Parts parts of our wiki.

Dry work(Agnes Zhou, Ella Liu, Ellen Tong):

- Scheduled interview with professors

- Set up meeting with local students to hear from their opinion on how the project could be further improved

- Designed questionnaires and wechat account to publicize and collect public opinion

- Prepared for Human Practice, Collaboration, Attribution, and Team Introduction parts of our wiki

Team Mentor(PI):

Mr. Fang Luo:

Mr. Fang Luo supervises all areas of research. He has guided our wet lab research along the way, teaching us how to design a successful experiment with proper control and experimental groups. He has also provided us a plentitude of resources in building our software and hardware. Being an experienced iGEMer in the past, he also taught us how to properly use social outreach to better our project design.

Team Advisor:

Mr. YY:

Being an expert in data science and statistics, Mr. YY taught us how to set up proper equations, methods such as Hill Function, and graph data so that we could more properly analyze our results and find the pattern in numbers.
