Synthetic Biology Research Centre - Nottingham
The Synthetic Biology Research Centre Nottingham (SBRC) is one of six synthetic biology research centres established by the UK Research councils BBSRC (Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council) and EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council). The centre concentrates on engineering bacteria to make industrially useful products from C1-feedstocks including the greenhouse gases, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide and methane. For the duration of our project we were embedded in the Synthetic Biology Research Centre-Nottingham and used a range of their facilities and expertise.
The Wellcome Trust
The Wellcome Trust is a research charity based in London, United Kingdom. The charity aims to improve health by supporting the development of new ideas into realities. They work with academia, businesses, civil society and governments to prevent. Their key issues range from developing new vaccines, to better treatment programmes for mental health and improving planetary health. One of their recent successes has been an experimental vaccine to the Ebola virus.

BBSRC is part of UK Research and Innovation, a new body which works in partnership with universities, research organisations, businesses, charities, and government to create the best possible environment for research and innovation to flourish. They aim to maximise the contribution of each of our component parts, working individually and collectively. The BBSRC invested £498 million in world-class bioscience in 2017-18 and they support around 1,600 scientists and 2,000 research students in universities and institutes across the UK.

Nottingham Digestive Diseases Biomedical Research Centre
The NIHR Nottingham Digestive Diseases Biomedical Research Centre (NDDBRC) was established in 2008 from a successful NIHR infrastructure grant award. Initial funding supported the building of the research facility including the area to involve and evaluate volunteers and patients safely, laboratory, employment of researchers and support staff as well as the key equipment. Successful renewal of NDDBRU has provided them with funds to support experimental medicine studies within their area of focus, which is on ‘Infection, inflammation and consequences within the GI tract and liver’.
