Even with all of the effort we have contributed to the project as a team, it would not have been possible without the support from these individuals and groups.

General Support

The University of Michigan’s Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology department and the Biomedical Engineering department for sponsoring our organization.
Dennis Drobeck for allowing us to use lab space in the Undergraduate Science Building on campus.
Our corporate sponsor, SnapGene, for providing us with software.
The Ann Arbor T-shirt Company for printing our team t-shirts.

Project Support and Advice

Anuj Kumar and Marcus Ammerlaan, our faculty advisors, for all their support in technical troubleshooting and overseeing the project while also giving us the independence of being student researchers.
Our alumni advisors, Matthew Fischer and Aaron Rengburg, for helping us with project design, wetlab work, and the team wiki. Anthony Balistreri, our graduate student advisor, for all his support in technical troubleshooting, advice on application of quorum sensing, and general advice on wetlab work.
University of Michigan professor, John Wolfe for giving us advice and support in wet lab work.
Matthew Fletcher and Paul Williams from the University of Nottingham for their contribution to sharing the strain Chromobacterium violaceum CV026.

Project Inspiration

Team IIT Kharagpur for inspiring us to improve upon their project idea of creating a biosensor to detect food spoilage.
Team Groningen for inspiring us to incorporate chromoproteins as the reporter system to allow color visualization.

Presentation Coaching

The University of Michigan graduate students within the Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology department for giving us advice on our presentation.

Fundraising Support

The University of Michigan’s Program in Biology, Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology department, the Biomedical Engineering department, Biophysics department, Medical School Cellular and Molecular Biology, Medical School Department of Human Genetics, and the University of Michigan Public Healthfor providing us with funding.
The generous donors who helped fund our project through Experiment.com. Without them we would not be able to attend the competition.

Lab Support

Dennis Drobeck for providing us with materials and equipment.
Anuj Kumar and Marcus Ammerlaan for providing us with materials and reagents.

Human Practices Support

University of Michigan Professors, Lisa Bradshaw and Lesli Hoey, and Keith Soster from the University of Michigan Sustainable Food Systems Initiative for participating as speakers at our panel event.
University of Michigan Natural History Museum for hosting and helping us organize an event dedicated to educating young children and parents about synthetic biology and science.

A Final Thanks…

To each and every one of our 2019 team members for making a memorable experience and working hard to make this project possible!
