The TTU iGEM Team would like to sincerely thank the following mentors for their guidance and support through our journey during the 2019 iGEM Competition.
Dr. John D’Auria generously offered his time and commitment as a mentor to the TTU iGEM team. Not only did he provide valuable information and feedback on our research efforts, he also allowed us to conduct research in his lab space. He helped guide our team while allowing us the flexibility to initiate our own research endeavors
Dr. Michael Latham kindly offered his time to teach the team how to use the plate reader for the InterLab study and future research objectives. During team meetings he directed the team towards feasible goals for the competition. We look forward to future research activities with Dr. Latham.
Dr. Serra-Ruth Moreno graciously gave the TTU iGEM team her time by providing advice during weekly laboratory meetings and other meetings. She assisted in the improvement of the team’s presentation skills and provided valuable input and feedback to improve our laboratory techniques.
Julie Isom is an enthusiastic supporter of the TTU iGEM team as the advisor for the student organization on campus and Associate Program Director of Research for CISER. She provided financial support and managerial assistance throughout the entire competition.
Student Contributions
Paula Garavito was the team leader for the 2019 iGEM Team. She was involved in laboratory protocols and wet lab training for the iGEM Team throughout the competition. In addition, She was involved in project planning, initiation fundraising, outreach activities, collaboration wiki-page editing, social media and attended the Texas IGEM meet up. She successfully used the XQ52 platform strain to produce Oxobunatic acid and Oxoglutaric Acid as a proof of concept for the 2019 iGEM project.
Brittney Barrios was involved in conducting Measurement protocols provided by iGEM 2019. She conducted fluorescent calibrations for a 96 well plate, OD 600 calibrations for a 96 well plate, and Cell measurement assessment for a 96 well plate and 250 mL shake culture flask. She also conducted data analysis or troubleshooting concerning the calibrations and cell measurements specifically concerning skills such as graphing, calculating specific growth rate, and proper use of Beer Lambert’s Law.
Pranathi Bingi was the treasurer for the team and was involved in managing the budget of the team as well as organizing fundraising information. Additionally, she was involved in fundraising, outreach activities, writing information for the wiki, and collaborations. She was specifically involved in the collaboration with the UT Austin iGEM team by maintaining communication and sending parts to the team. She also built and tested one of the burden monitor strains used in our experiments.
Bliss Bizzell was involved in performing the XQ52 Tropinone tolerance assay, as well as troubleshooting the Loop Assembly protocol. She assisted in developing a standard for putrescine for the HPLC. She attended the Texas iGEM Meet-Up and performed the initial calibration strain fluorescence and cell growth measurements. She also assisted in designing the Wiki page.
Coltyn Wagnon was the secretary for the team and was involved with planning meetings and keeping the team’s information organized. He constructed low copy loop assembly compatible vectors to be used for optimizing pathway expression in the XQ52 platform strain. In addition, he was involved in Loop Assembly troubleshooting and multi transcriptional unit construction methods.
Jordan Chasten was involved in performing the collaboration with the UT Austin iGEM team. He built and tested one of the burden monitor strains used in our experiments. He was also involved in introducing some of the plasmids that housed genes necessary for the production of Oxobutanoic Acid into our microbial host, outreach activities and workshops, designing primers and assisted in implementing and troubleshooting Loop Assembly transcriptional unit construction methods.
Sebastian Valbuena was the wet lab manager for the team and was involved with enforcing safety training, lab notebooks and lab schedules for the organization. He was also involved in the building, formatting and editing the wiki page.
