Team MSP-Maastricht has decided to open a crowdfunding platform!! With the help of Maastricht University Crowdfunding Projects, the team has been able to gather a considerable support!

Macsbio, standing for Maastricht Center for Systems Biology, is the youngest research center created by Maastricht University in 2015. As visionnaires, they focus their research on subjects dear to society by developing a set of computational and mathematical models that would then be used by clinics and researchers. Currently their focus is on systems medicine of chronic disease and computational biology of neural and genetic system. Macsbio decided to support the first Limburg iGEM Team, offering a great partnership and giving us feedback on the our project.

Brightlands is an industrial research complex that consists of four main campuses in Limburg, the Netherlands. The research at these locations focuses on biomaterials, sustainable chemical production and many more regarding nutrition and medicine. These are open environments stimulating innovation by entrepreneurs, scientists and students working together to achieve breakthroughs in the scientific world. Integrated into the curriculum of the Maastricht Science Programme is practical work at one of the Brightlands campuses; Chemelot, in Geleen. This campus allows practical courses to take place every day of the week and connects students with the professional working environment as a future scientist.

Created in 1978 by Bill Linton, Promega, known before as Biotec, was a pioneer in the field of biotechnology. Today, Promega is a leading company in the field of biotechs, specialized in enzyme manufacture, as well as biotechnologies and molecular biology products. Promega has decided to sponsor 10 iGEM Team, including team MSP-Maastricht. Promega supported the team not only with products but with helpful feedback and guidance regarding the project.

Created in 1965, University Fund Limburg/SWOL supports high quality scientific research and education at Maastricht University. The funds financial resources originates from Limburg’s local community including companies, local authorities, funding bodies and private donors. Their main goal is to establish a relationship between this local community and Maastricht University, were all parties can find beneficial outcomes of the research supported by the fund.

The Maastricht Science Programme founded in 2010, is a unique bachelor’s programme at Maastricht University that focuses on natural sciences. MSP follows a liberal arts and sciences type of education incorporating Problem based learning (PBL) and Research based learning (RBL). Students design their curriculum of choice by choosing courses from an extensive list of natural science courses with interdisciplinary ones. The curriculum involves about 20 contact hours a week including a full day dedicated to practical skills.

RIVM is a Dutch research institute, attached to the ministry of health and sports. Through research and data collection, their aim is to promote public health and safe environment. There expertise focuses on three domain: Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology, Environment and Safety and Public Health and Health Services. RIVM has asked every Dutch iGEM Team to write a Safe-by-Design proposal that would coordinate with their project plans. Additionally, they have hosted a meetup in The Hague, that focused on team building and safe-by-design.

SnapGene is software developed by GSL Biotech, which allows scientists to plan, visualize, stimulate their molecular biology procedure as well as underlying avoidable mistakes. The software was designing for academics, such as students and postdocs, as well as for companies, for example in pharmaceutics. This complete application is widely known in the scientific community, being used in by multiple institution and companies in more than 65 countries. GBL Biotech supports multiple iGEM teams with licences for SnapGene, allowing us to efficiently optimize our project’s wet-lab research.
